How to Screenshot a Web Page on Android When the Browser Keeps Reloading
Use Android’s scrolling screenshot when it is available. If the browser reloads or extended capture is missing, save visible sections or print the page to PDF.
If a web page reloads when you try to capture a long screenshot, first take a regular screenshot with Power + Volume Down. Android’s scrolling screenshot control is available on Android 12 and up on most screens that allow scrolling, but it is not guaranteed for every browser page. If the control is missing or the page reloads again during extended capture, stop repeating that gesture: save the visible sections as separate screenshots, or use Chrome’s print preview to save a longer page as a PDF.
1. Take a scrolling screenshot on Android
- Open the page and scroll to the section where you want the capture to begin.
- Press Power + Volume Down at the same time. If that shortcut does not work on your device, hold the Power button for a few seconds and tap Screenshot.
- When the screenshot preview appears, look for the expanded or scrolling capture control. On supported screens, use it to extend the capture through the page.
- Stop at the content you need and save the resulting image.
Google’s support guidance limits scrolling screenshots to Android 12 and up and “most screens that allow you to scroll.” A page that scrolls normally may still not offer the extended capture control. Device makers can also present screenshot controls differently. If the page reloads or the control is absent, use one of the fallbacks below rather than assuming a particular setting or browser bug is responsible.
2. Choose the right fallback
| What you need | Use this | What it saves |
|---|---|---|
| A picture of the page | Take ordinary screenshots of each visible section | One or more image files |
| A continuous, printable copy in Chrome | More → Share → Print → Save as PDF | A PDF document, not a screenshot image |
| To read the page offline later | Use Chrome’s download-page option from its menu | An offline page for reading, not a full-page image |
Save separate screenshots of the visible sections
When extended capture is unstable, capture the visible screen with Power + Volume Down, scroll a manageable amount, and capture the next section. Keep a small overlap between images so you can tell where one section continues into the next. This is the reliable choice when the deliverable must be an image. It produces multiple files, so it is less convenient to search, print, or share as one document.
Save a Chrome page as PDF
- In Chrome for Android, open the page and tap More (the three-dot menu).
- Tap Share, then Print.
- In the print preview, choose Save as PDF.
- Select a save location and save the file.
PDF is useful for a longer, readable or printable copy. It is a document rather than a screenshot image, and page breaks or print formatting can differ from what you see while browsing.
Download a page for offline reading
Chrome also offers a page download option for reading offline. Use it when you want to revisit the content without a connection. It is not documented as a method for creating a full-page screenshot.
3. If the browser reloads during capture
- The page reloads when you try expanded capture: the exact cause depends on details such as the device, Android version, browser build, page, and gesture. The available guidance does not identify a universal setting or confirmed cause. Stop repeating the gesture and use separate screenshots or Chrome’s PDF workflow.
- No scrolling or expanded control appears: scrolling capture may not be supported on that screen. Take a normal screenshot, or print to PDF if you need a continuous copy in Chrome.
- The Power + Volume Down shortcut does nothing: hold Power for a few seconds and tap Screenshot. Button combinations and screenshot controls can vary by device.
- The PDF is incomplete or laid out differently: print preview is intended to create a document, and print layout may differ from the browser view. Review the preview before saving; use visible-section screenshots if visual fidelity as an image matters.
- You only need to revisit the page: download it in Chrome for offline reading rather than trying to make an image.
These steps preserve the content in a different format; they do not diagnose or fix the underlying reload behavior. The exact cause cannot be determined from the symptom alone.
4. Capture a page from a computer when you need one image
If you can open the page on a computer, a browser automation script can capture the full page as an image. The example below uses Playwright with Node.js. It captures a page URL you provide, waits for the page to load, and writes a full-page PNG. It does not reproduce your Android browser state, and pages that require a login or device-specific interaction may need additional setup.
npm install playwright
npx playwright install chromium
// save as screenshot.mjs
import { chromium } from 'playwright';
const url = process.argv[2];
if (!url) {
console.error('Usage: node screenshot.mjs https://example.com');
process.exit(1);
}
const browser = await chromium.launch({ headless: true });
try {
const page = await browser.newPage({ viewport: { width: 1440, height: 900 } });
await page.goto(url, { waitUntil: 'networkidle', timeout: 60000 });
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
console.log('Saved page.png');
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
node screenshot.mjs https://example.com
For pages that keep making network requests, networkidle may never occur before the timeout. In that case, wait for a page-specific selector or use a short fixed delay after navigation. Very long pages can also produce large images; capture a relevant element or split the page into sections when a single image is unwieldy.
5. Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request returns an image or PDF, so you can capture a public page from a script without installing a browser automation stack. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await Bun.write('shot.webp', res);
- Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; each cleanup step can be turned off.
- Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are never billed. Response headers report the page verdict and billing status.
- An MCP server lets AI agents use screenshot, page-info, and PDF-capture tools.
- 1,000 screenshots a month are free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

6. Frequently asked questions
Does Android scrolling capture work on every web page?
No. Android describes it as available on most scrollable screens on Android 12 and up, not every page.
Will saving as PDF give me a screenshot?
No. Chrome’s print workflow saves a PDF document. Use ordinary screenshots if the output must be an image.
Does a Chrome page download create a full-page image?
No. The download option is for offline reading.
Can I tell why the page reloaded from this symptom alone?
No. The cause depends on device, Android and browser versions, the page, and the gesture. The supported workarounds preserve the content without establishing why the reload happened.
