How to screenshot eBay listings and track sold-price changes
Capture an eBay listing as evidence, then use sold-price data—not screenshots or asking prices—to compare sales over time.
A screenshot preserves what an eBay listing showed at the moment you captured it. It does not create a price history or prove that a transaction was completed. For actual sold-price changes, use eBay Product Research where you have access; it covers sales data across the last three years and includes accepted Best Offer prices. For a quick recent comparison, use sold or completed listings, which cover sold items from the previous 90 days. Keep screenshots and price research as separate records.
1. Capture an eBay listing with enough context
Open the listing and make sure the capture shows as much of the identifying information as possible: title, item condition and variant, displayed price, shipping, seller or listing details, and whether it is active or ended. If those details do not fit in one image, take multiple screenshots. A listing screenshot records its visible presentation; it does not establish the final accepted payment or fulfillment.
Take a screenshot on iPhone
- On an iPhone with Face ID, press and quickly release the Side button and Volume Up button together.
- On an iPhone with a Home button, use the Side or Top button together with Home, as appropriate for the model.
- Review the thumbnail, crop or mark up a copy if useful, and save the original capture.
- Find screenshots in Photos under Collections > Media Types > Screenshots. The exact post-capture controls can differ by iOS version.
See Apple’s screenshot instructions for device-specific details.
Keep a record you can compare later
Use a consistent filename or a spreadsheet row for every capture. Record the capture date, item title, item ID or URL in your own notes, condition and variant, displayed price, shipping, and listing status. Save the original screenshot; add annotations to a copy so the unmarked evidence remains available.
| Field | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Capture date | Shows when the listing looked this way; it is not the sale date. |
| Item ID or URL | Helps identify the precise listing later, if it remains accessible. |
| Variant and condition | Prevents unlike versions or conditions from being compared as if they were the same item. |
| Displayed price and shipping | Preserves the visible offer and delivery cost at capture time. |
| Listing status | Distinguishes an active listing from one that has ended. |
2. Find what eBay items actually sold for
Use Product Research for historical analysis
eBay Product Research provides access to sales data across the last three years. It can also show actual sale prices when a seller accepted a Best Offer, which matters because the original displayed asking price may not be the amount paid. eBay describes access in Seller Hub and through the eBay app. Mobile access eligibility is stated as requiring at least one active listing or a listing sold within the previous 90 days. Navigation and eligibility can change, so check the current interface and your account.
In Seller Hub, eBay’s documented route is Selling > Product Research. In the app, find Product Research using the current selling tools; labels and placement may vary. See eBay’s Product Research help and its Seller Center tools information.
- Search for the exact product using identifying terms, such as model or product identifiers, rather than a broad category name alone.
- Narrow by marketplace, condition, category, date range, and other available attributes that fit the comparison.
- Separate variants, bundles, and conditions. A used item, refurbished item, and new item usually should not be treated as equivalent.
- Inspect sale dates, actual sold prices, shipping, sale format, and the number of sales or sellers behind any summary.
- Record the query and filters with your log so a later comparison can use the same criteria.
For a useful comparison, look at the item price plus shipping and distinguish auction results from fixed-price sales. Treat summary ranges in context: a small number of sales can make a trend less informative. Not every filter or metric is necessarily present in every app version.
Use sold or completed search for a recent cross-check
Search eBay for the item and apply the sold or completed listing filters. This route shows recently ended sold items from the previous 90 days. It is useful for a quick check, but it does not provide the three-year window available through Product Research. Check that results match the exact model, condition, variant, and marketplace before comparing prices.
3. Track changes over time without confusing the records
Maintain two kinds of records:
- Listing evidence: your dated screenshot, which documents what was visible at capture time.
- Sale-price observations: dated sold results from Product Research or sold/completed search, including query details, condition, shipping, and sale format.
At a regular interval that suits your decision, repeat the same Product Research query and filters, then add the new observations to your log. Compare like with like: exact model or identifier, condition, variant, marketplace, date range, auction or fixed-price format, accepted offer where available, and shipping. A listing’s current asking price is not a completed sale price.
Watchlist can help you follow listings under consideration and may alert you when an item is ending soon. An ended item that is not relisted within 60 days is removed, so Watchlist is not a permanent archive or historical price chart. Saved searches can alert you when new matching listings appear; they likewise do not replace a maintained sold-price log. See eBay’s guidance for Watchlist and My eBay features.
4. Screenshot a public listing with ScreenshotNeo
If you need a repeatable capture from a script or browser-based workflow, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. It can return a screenshot or PDF from one GET request. It can help preserve a public listing view, but the capture still documents only what the page displayed at that time; use eBay’s sold data to assess actual sale prices.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.ebay.com/itm/ITEM_ID -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://www.ebay.com/itm/ITEM_ID"},
timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({
access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY',
url: 'https://www.ebay.com/itm/ITEM_ID'
});
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await Bun.write('shot.webp', res);
Replace ITEM_ID with the listing identifier. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. The request target must be a page accessible to the capture service; login-gated or otherwise inaccessible content may not capture as expected. Protect your access key and do not expose it in public client-side code.
Or skip the browser setup
Cookie banners are accepted and removed before capture, along with 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server lets AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients, take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.ebay.com/itm/ITEM_ID -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://www.ebay.com/itm/ITEM_ID"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://www.ebay.com/itm/ITEM_ID' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

5. Options for repeatable capture
ScreenshotNeo supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, capture of one element by CSS selector, dark mode, 12 device presets and custom viewports, retina scale, PDF output with paper size, margins, landscape and page ranges, HTML or CSS to image, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicking an element before capture, hiding selectors, and waiting for a selector, a delay, or network idle.
Requests can also set custom headers, cookies, user agent, Authorization, timezone and geolocation; block ads, trackers, requests or resource types; use a transparent background; resize images; cache with a chosen TTL; create signed links for public <img> tags; submit asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks; capture up to 100 URLs per bulk call; and query usage through the usage API. An OpenAPI specification is available, and parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work to ease migration. Every feature is available on every plan. Choose options based on what needs to be visible in the listing record; do not interpret a screenshot as sold-price verification.
6. Performance, reliability, and cost
- Keep evidence useful: capture the relevant page context and avoid changing the original screenshot. For a long page, full-page capture can keep more of the listing in one image; separate captures may be easier to inspect where key details are far apart.
- Handle variable page loads: listings can load content dynamically. A selector wait, delay, or network-idle wait can help capture after the relevant content appears. If a page is blank or blocked, inspect the response’s page-verdict and billing headers where applicable.
- Store comparison context: retain capture date and listing URL or item ID. Screenshots are point-in-time records, while sold data is the source for sale-price comparisons.
- Plan usage by volume: ScreenshotNeo’s Free plan is 1,000 shots/month; Starter is $5 for 3,000; Growth $15 for 15,000; Pro $39 for 60,000; Scale $99 for 250,000; Business $249 for 1,000,000. Yearly billing gives two months free. Only clean shots are billed, and every plan has every feature.
- For larger jobs: bulk capture accepts 100 URLs per call, and async jobs support signed webhooks. Use the usage API to monitor consumption.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The screenshot misses the price or item details | The page had not finished rendering, or the details are outside the captured area. | Wait for a relevant selector, use an appropriate delay or network-idle wait, capture full page, or take another screen for the missing context. |
| The listing screenshot shows an asking price, but sold results differ | An asking price is not necessarily the final sale price; a Best Offer may have been accepted. | Use Product Research actual sale-price data where available and compare matched sold listings. |
| Sold search has few or no useful results | The search may be too broad or too narrow, the item may be uncommon, or results may fall outside the previous 90 days. | Check identifiers and variant terms, then use Product Research for its longer history if accessible. |
| Product Research is unavailable in the app | Account eligibility may not meet eBay’s stated mobile condition, or the interface may have changed. | Check Seller Hub access and current eBay guidance; mobile access is stated to require an active listing or a sale in the previous 90 days. |
| A Watchlist item disappeared | Ended items not relisted within 60 days are removed. | Keep your own capture and price log; Watchlist is not permanent storage. |
| A scripted screenshot is blank or blocked | The target page may have timed out, failed to load, or presented a bot check. | Check the response status and page-verdict/billing headers, verify the URL is accessible, and retry if appropriate. Such failed or blocked captures are not billed by ScreenshotNeo. |
| The API request fails | The key, URL encoding, target URL, or network response may be invalid. | Confirm the access key, encode the URL as a query parameter, check the HTTP response, and consult the API docs. |
FAQ
Does a screenshot prove an eBay item sold?
No. It preserves the listing as displayed at capture time. Use sold-price data for evidence of completed sales, and do not treat a screenshot alone as proof of payment or fulfillment.
How far back can I see eBay sold listings?
Ordinary sold/completed listings cover sold items ended in the previous 90 days. Product Research offers sales data across the last three years.
Where is Product Research in the eBay app?
It is available through the eBay app for eligible accounts, but mobile navigation can change. eBay states that mobile access requires an active listing or a listing sold within the previous 90 days; check the current selling tools in the app.
Is Watchlist a price history chart?
No. It helps follow listings, but ended items may be removed after 60 days if not relisted. Keep your own dated log for longer-term tracking.
Can ScreenshotNeo tell me an eBay item’s accepted offer price?
No. It captures a webpage. Use Product Research’s actual-price data, which includes accepted Best Offer prices, where available.
