How to Screenshot an Entire Page in Firefox
Capture a complete webpage in Firefox with the built-in screenshot tool, save or copy it, fix common issues, and automate captures with ScreenshotNeo.
Short answer: Open the Firefox screenshot tool with right-click on an empty part of the page → Take Screenshot (or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux, Command+Shift+S on macOS). Choose Save full page, then select Download to save a PNG or Copy to place it on your clipboard. Mozilla documents this workflow in its Firefox screenshot help article.
1. Capture the entire page
- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Right-click an empty area of the page.
- Select Take Screenshot.
- In the screenshot toolbar, choose Save full page in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Download to save the PNG in Firefox’s default download folder, or choose Copy to copy it to the clipboard.
Firefox’s generated filename includes the date, time, and page title. A full-page capture includes content below the current viewport, so you do not need to scroll manually.
2. Use the keyboard shortcut
| Platform | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Windows or Linux | Ctrl+Shift+S |
| macOS | Command+Shift+S |
The shortcut opens the same screenshot interface as the context-menu command. If it does nothing, click the page first and make sure another application or extension has not claimed the shortcut.
3. Choose the right capture area
| Option | What it captures | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Save full page | The complete page from top to bottom | Documentation, articles, invoices, landing pages |
| Save visible | Only the portion currently on screen | A quick viewport image |
| Selection tool | A custom rectangular region | One chart, paragraph, or visual area |
| Automatically highlighted page part | A detected element or page section | A card, image, navigation panel, or other element |
After selecting an area, use Download or Copy just as you would for a full-page capture.
4. Add Screenshot to the Firefox toolbar
- Open the Firefox menu.
- Choose More Tools → Customize Toolbar….
- Drag the Screenshot button onto the toolbar.
- Choose Done.
The new button gives you one-click access to the screenshot interface for repeat work.
5. Keyboard navigation inside the selection tool
Firefox supports arrow-key movement for the screenshot crosshair and selection. Modified keys can move the crosshair toward viewport edges. Mozilla notes that moving the crosshair does not work on Wayland. If you use a Wayland session on Linux, use the mouse or switch to a non-Wayland session for keyboard positioning.
6. Privacy and captured data
Mozilla’s support documentation states: We never collect data such as the URL or details of the image captured.
The same section explains that Firefox Screenshots can collect interaction events, such as whether you used Copy or Save full page. You can opt out by clearing Firefox’s setting for sending technical and interaction data to Mozilla. See the privacy section in Mozilla’s instructions for the current setting location.
7. Troubleshooting
The Take Screenshot command is missing
Right-click an empty part of the webpage, not a text field, image, embedded frame, or browser chrome. You can also use the platform shortcut or add the Screenshot button through More Tools → Customize Toolbar….
Save full page is not visible
Wait for the screenshot interface to finish opening, then look in its upper-right area. If Firefox has not recognized a page, reload the tab and try again. Very unusual pages can still fail to capture; Mozilla’s support forum contains individual reports, which are not evidence of a general limitation.
The result only contains the visible viewport
You selected Save visible instead of Save full page. Reopen the tool and choose the full-page option before downloading.
The downloaded file cannot be found
Firefox saves the PNG in its configured download folder. Open the Firefox downloads panel to reveal the file or check Settings → General → Files and Applications → Downloads.
Copy does not paste an image
Use Download and open the PNG in an image editor. Clipboard managers, remote desktops, and some browser permissions can prevent image data from being available to another application.
Crosshair keyboard movement fails on Linux
Check whether the desktop session uses Wayland. Mozilla documents a Wayland caveat for crosshair movement; use the mouse for selection or run Firefox in an environment where keyboard movement works.
8. Quality, loading, and repeat-capture tips
- Let images, fonts, and expandable sections finish loading before opening the tool.
- For pages that lazy-load content while scrolling, scroll through the page once, return to the top, and then choose Save full page.
- Close transient menus or chat panels before capture if they should not appear in the image.
- Use Save visible or a selection when a full-page PNG would be unnecessarily tall or difficult to share.
- For a reproducible archive, keep the downloaded filename with its date and time and record the page URL separately.
9. When browser screenshots are not enough
Firefox is convenient for an occasional manual capture. A screenshot API is useful when you need scheduled jobs, a server-side workflow, custom viewport and device settings, element-only images, PDFs, or many URLs.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo captures a page with one GET request and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Read the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for all options.

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed; response headers report the page verdict and billing result. It also provides an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Start with a free ScreenshotNeo account.
