How to Take a Screenshot on the Google Pixel 10a
Capture your Pixel 10a screen with buttons, scrolling capture, gestures, Quick Tap, or voice—and find, edit, and share the image.
The fastest way to take a screenshot on a Google Pixel 10a is to press the Side (Power) key and Volume Down at the same time. A preview appears immediately so you can open, edit, or share the image. Google’s Pixel instructions call this the Power button; the Pixel 10a Android 16 guide calls it the Side key.
Take a screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side/Power key and the lower part of the Volume key together.
- Release both buttons. The screenshot preview appears.
- Tap the preview to edit or share it, or wait for it to disappear and find the image in Google Photos.
The buttons must be pressed at nearly the same time. If you hold the Side key first, the power menu or Assistant may open; if you hold Volume Down first, the volume control may appear.
Capture a scrolling screenshot
Scrolling screenshots let you save more than the visible screen, such as a long web page, settings list, or conversation.
- Use Side/Power + Volume Down.
- Tap Capture more in the screenshot preview.
- Drag the crop handles to include the content you need.
- Tap Save.
Google documents scrolling capture for Android 12 and later on most screens that support scrolling. The option is conditional, so Capture more may not appear in apps or views that do not expose a scrollable page. See Google Pixel Phone Help for the current Pixel steps.
Screenshot without pressing both buttons
Gesture navigation
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold to open the recent-apps view.
- Select the open app you want to capture.
- Tap Screenshot.
Three-button navigation
- Tap Overview (the square or recent-apps button).
- Choose the app.
- Tap Screenshot.
Quick Tap
Pixel’s Quick Tap feature can assign an action to two taps on the back of the phone. To configure it, open Settings > System > Gestures > Start an action with a quick tap, then choose Screenshot if that action is offered on your current software. Case, grip, and tap strength can affect recognition.
Google Assistant
Say “Hey Google, take a screenshot.” Google Assistant captures the current screen when voice interaction is available and enabled.
Where Pixel 10a screenshots are saved
Open Google Photos > Collections > On this device > Screenshots. Tap an image to crop, annotate, edit, or share it. You can also tap the thumbnail immediately after capture to open the new file.
Choose the right method
| Method | Best for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Side/Power + Volume Down | Most screens | Requires pressing both physical controls together. |
| Capture more | Long pages and conversations | Android 12+; only appears on supported scrollable screens. |
| Gesture or Overview | Avoiding the button shortcut | Requires the corresponding navigation mode. |
| Quick Tap | A back-of-phone shortcut | Must be enabled and assigned in Gestures settings. |
| Assistant voice | Hands-free capture | Requires Assistant and voice interaction to be available. |
Troubleshooting
The power menu appears instead
You probably held the Side key before pressing Volume Down. Press both keys together and release quickly.
The volume slider appears
Press the Side key and the lower volume control simultaneously. Do not press Volume Up.
No screenshot preview appears
Try the shortcut again on the target screen, then check Google Photos > Collections > On this device > Screenshots. A managed work profile, kiosk app, or security policy can restrict screenshots.
“Capture more” is missing
The current view may not support scrolling capture. Confirm that the phone is running Android 12 or later and try a long web page or settings list.
Quick Tap does nothing
Verify the action is assigned under Settings > System > Gestures. Remove a thick case temporarily, tap twice firmly, and try again.
Assistant does not respond
Check that Google Assistant and “Hey Google” are enabled, then use the physical-button or navigation method instead.
The image is cut off
For a normal screenshot, only the visible display is captured. Use Capture more for supported long content and adjust its crop handles before saving.
Privacy and sharing checklist
- Review notifications, account names, addresses, and tokens before sharing.
- Crop or mark out passwords, payment details, and private messages.
- Remember that a screenshot is a separate image file; changing the original app later does not change it.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need screenshots of web pages in code rather than a screenshot of the phone itself, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API. It accepts a URL and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF.
One GET request is enough:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Read the full parameter reference in the ScreenshotNeo documentation. Before capture, cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing result. ScreenshotNeo also provides an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents.
The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.
FAQ
Can I screenshot the lock screen?
Use the same button shortcut after unlocking if the lock-screen software permits capture. Some protected screens block screenshots.
Does a scrolling screenshot capture everything?
It captures the range you select with the crop handles. It works only where Android exposes a supported scrolling surface.
Do screenshots use mobile data?
Taking and saving a screenshot is a local operation. Any later backup or sharing can use Wi-Fi or mobile data according to your Photos and app settings.
Can I change the screenshot folder?
Pixel’s documented location is Google Photos under Collections > On this device > Screenshots. File-management behavior can vary by Android and Photos updates.
