How to Take Screenshots of an Indian GST Portal Page After Login

Log in to the official GST Portal, capture the page on Windows or Mac, and check the image for sensitive details before sharing it.

To screenshot a page after logging in to the Indian GST Portal, open the official GST Portal, sign in using the prompts shown, navigate to the page you need, and use your computer’s built-in screenshot shortcut. Before sharing the image, check it for credentials, OTPs, taxpayer details, and unrelated information.

1. Log in to the official GST Portal

  1. Go to https://www.gst.gov.in/ and choose Login.
  2. Enter your GST Portal login details and complete the CAPTCHA shown on screen. Follow the portal’s current prompts; the layout and checks can change.
  3. If prompted, complete the additional authentication step, such as an OTP. The GST Portal manual says a previously authenticated trusted browser or device may not need an OTP on every login, while first logins and some other circumstances can trigger one. Never include an OTP in a screenshot or send it to someone helping you. See the GST Portal login and password manual.
  4. Navigate to the page or record you need to document. Do not capture an unrelated prompt just because it appears during login.

If the portal asks for additional information after your first login, follow the on-screen instructions only if they are relevant to your account task. The screenshot workflow does not require capturing unrelated account setup pages.

2. Capture the page on Windows

On Windows 10 or 11, press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open the Snipping Tool capture overlay. Choose a mode and select the page area you need:

  • Rectangular snip: drag around the relevant part of the page.
  • Window snip: capture a window.
  • Full-screen snip: capture the whole display.
  • Freeform snip: draw an irregular selection.

The capture is copied to the Snipping Tool window, where you can edit it and save a copy. For exact controls and version details, see Microsoft’s Snipping Tool instructions. The PrtSc key can also capture the full screen to the clipboard, but its behavior may depend on your settings and hardware.

3. Capture the page on Mac

  • Press Shift-Command-4, then drag over the area to capture.
  • For the entire screen, press Shift-Command-3.
  • To capture a window or menu, press Shift-Command-4, then press the Space bar and select it.
  • On macOS Mojave 10.14 or later, press Shift-Command-5 to open Screenshot controls, which include options such as a timer and save location.

By default, Mac screenshots are saved on the desktop. Apple documents these shortcuts and controls in Take a screenshot on Mac.

4. Review the screenshot before sharing

Crop the image to the information needed to explain the issue, then inspect it at full size before attaching or sending it.

  • Remove or obscure usernames, passwords, OTPs, and security answers.
  • Check whether taxpayer identifiers, financial details, or other account information are visible. Redact anything the recipient does not need.
  • Close or hide unrelated browser tabs and notifications before capturing, or crop them out afterward.
  • Do not save your password on a public or shared computer, and sign out when finished on a device other people can access.

The GST Portal’s enrolment manual warns users not to disclose confidential account information, including usernames, passwords, and security-question answers, and advises against saving a password on a public or shared system. See Enrolment of Existing Taxpayer with Provisional ID and Password. Treat the screenshot as account evidence: share only the portion required for the support request.

5. Or skip the browser setup

For a public page that does not require a personal GST login, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot through one GET request. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Use the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and access-key setup.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.gst.gov.in/ -o shot.webp

Python:

import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://www.gst.gov.in/"},
    timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Node.js:

const q = new URLSearchParams({
  access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY',
  url: 'https://www.gst.gov.in/'
});
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await Bun.write('shot.webp', new Uint8Array(await res.arrayBuffer()));

These examples request a public portal page without signing in. Do not put GST credentials, OTPs, or private account URLs into an API request. A logged-in page is behind your authenticated browser session; do not assume an API can access it without a supported, secure authentication setup.

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server lets AI agents use take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. See ScreenshotNeo and the docs. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card.

Common problems and fixes

Problem Likely cause What to do
The login asks for an OTP The portal is applying an additional authentication check; OTP is not necessarily required on every login. Use the code delivered through the portal’s current process. Do not share it or include it in the screenshot.
The CAPTCHA is hard to read or login does not proceed The CAPTCHA entry may not match, or the prompt may have changed. Follow the current on-screen instructions and retry the login flow. Do not capture or circulate credentials as a troubleshooting shortcut.
The screenshot overlay does not open on Windows The shortcut may be intercepted by keyboard settings or device-specific behavior. Try opening Snipping Tool from Windows, or check the device’s keyboard and screenshot settings. Microsoft notes that PrtSc behavior can vary.
The Mac screenshot is saved somewhere unexpected The save location may have been changed in Screenshot controls. Use Shift-Command-5 on supported macOS versions and review the save location, or check the desktop default.
The image includes sensitive or irrelevant information The selected area included more of the screen than needed, or notifications and other tabs were visible. Do not share that copy. Recapture a smaller area or redact the unnecessary details, then inspect the result again.
An API capture does not show the account page after login The request targets a public URL and does not automatically inherit the authenticated browser session. Use the browser screenshot steps for account-only pages. Do not send credentials or OTPs in a URL or query string.

Performance, reliability, and cost

For a single logged-in page, a built-in operating-system capture is usually the most direct route: it records the page as displayed in your authenticated browser and needs no API key or service charge. Capture only the necessary area to keep the file focused and easier to review.

For repeatable captures of public pages, an API can avoid manual browser setup. ScreenshotNeo supports image output and PDF, full-page capture with lazy images loaded, element selection, viewport and device presets, waits, request blocking, custom headers and cookies, caching, async jobs, and bulk capture. Choose only the options the page requires. A delayed or network-idle wait can help dynamic pages render, while unnecessary full-page capture or long waits can add time.

ScreenshotNeo’s stated pricing is Free: 1,000 shots/month; Starter: $5 for 3,000; Growth: $15 for 15,000; Pro: $39 for 60,000; Scale: $99 for 250,000; Business: $249 for 1,000,000. Yearly billing gives two months free, and every feature is available on every plan. Only clean shots are billed; check the response’s X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers to see the outcome for a request.
