How to Screenshot a Regional-Language Cookie Banner on a Hindi Website
Capture a Hindi cookie banner in Firefox before making a consent choice, preserve the page context, and troubleshoot missing or inconsistent notices.
To document a Hindi cookie banner, open the page in a fresh browser session, set the site or browser language to Hindi if needed, and capture the banner before clicking any consent option. In Firefox, press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS. Choose a selected region, the visible page, or the full page depending on what your record needs.
A screenshot records what was visible at that moment. It does not prove that the site saved or honored a consent choice. For a useful record, label the file with the language, consent state, URL, and capture date.
1. Decide which state you need to capture
Cookie notices can appear in several states. Choose the evidence you need before interacting with the page:
- First-visit banner: the notice as a visitor sees it before choosing.
- Preferences panel: the expanded controls for categories or settings.
- After a choice: the page after accepting, rejecting, or saving preferences.
These are different records. To document the prompt, take the first-visit screenshot before choosing. To document the preference interface or post-choice page, capture those as separate files and label the action taken. A screenshot alone cannot confirm the site’s stored consent state.
2. Prepare a consistent Hindi page
- Open the intended URL in a fresh browser session where possible. A private window can help avoid reusing an existing session, though it does not guarantee that every site will show a banner.
- If the website has a language selector, choose Hindi before capturing. If it relies on browser language negotiation, set Hindi as the preferred browser language before loading the page.
- Keep the URL and viewport consistent if you are comparing Hindi with another language. Also keep the browser version, page position, and consent state consistent.
- Wait for the notice to finish rendering. Do not click accept, reject, or preferences until the initial banner has been captured.
A site can choose language from browser preferences, an in-page language setting, regional signals, saved state, or other site-specific logic. Without the URL, there is no way to know which mechanism this particular site uses.
3. Capture the banner in Firefox
- Navigate to the Hindi page and make sure the banner is visible.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot, or use the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose the capture area that matches your purpose:
| Choice | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Selected region | You need just the banner or a specific portion of it. |
| Visible page | The banner is in view and you want the current viewport as context. |
| Full page | The surrounding page content matters, or the banner is positioned in a way that requires the full-page record. |
- Save the image to your computer or copy it to the clipboard. Keep the original capture unchanged if it is evidence for a QA report or review.
- Record the URL, date and time, viewport dimensions, browser version, language setting, and consent state alongside the image.
Firefox’s screenshot interface supports selected areas, detected page parts, the visible portion, and the full page. See Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot documentation for the browser’s capture controls.
4. Capture the banner and compare language versions
For a Hindi-versus-English comparison, use the same page URL and viewport where possible. Capture both versions in the same consent state and at the same scroll position. Name files so the distinction is clear, for example example-hi-first-visit.png and example-en-first-visit.png. Include the date if the page may change over time.
For a focused record of only the notice, select its visible region. For a record that shows where the notice sits on the page, use the visible-page or full-page capture. Avoid cropping away details that matter to your review, such as buttons, links, or the surrounding page context.
5. If the banner is missing or you need an unobstructed page
The banner does not appear
- Check for reused consent state. The browser may have a saved choice from an earlier visit. Try a fresh session and reload the URL.
- Check how the site selects Hindi. It may use a language control, browser preference, regional signal, or stored setting. A missing Hindi banner alone does not establish a translation defect.
- Inspect cookies only when useful. Chrome DevTools can inspect and delete cookies for an origin, but deleting a cookie is not a universal reset for every consent system. A site may store state elsewhere or use other logic. See Chrome’s cookie management documentation.
- Keep the consent state in your notes. Do not describe a reused session as a first-visit capture if you cannot establish that state.
You also need a screenshot without the banner
For a separate image showing the page without the notice, Firefox Inspector can temporarily hide a selected element; a practical workflow is to select the banner element and press H. This changes the rendered view in the current page. It does not accept or reject consent. Reload the page to restore the original view, and do not present the altered screenshot as evidence of what a visitor saw.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No banner on reload | A prior choice or other state may be saved, or the site may not show a notice for the current conditions. | Try a fresh session, check the site’s language controls, and record what session and settings you used. |
| The page is not in Hindi | The site may not use browser language negotiation, or a saved site preference may take precedence. | Use the site’s language selector if present. Otherwise, note the browser language and the result rather than assuming how the site handles locale. |
| The screenshot misses part of the notice | The selected region or visible viewport does not include the full banner. | Capture a larger selected area or choose visible-page/full-page capture, then confirm that buttons and links are in frame. |
| The notice disappears before capture | A consent choice or page interaction may have changed the state. | Reload in a fresh session and capture before interacting. Keep a separate file for each state. |
| The hidden-banner image is mistaken for visitor evidence | Inspector visibility changes alter the rendered page. | Label it as an edited view, retain the untouched capture, and reload to restore the page. |
7. Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request captures a URL; the API can return an image or PDF. Its clean-shot workflow accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Each step can be turned off. For a consent-banner record, turn off the cleanup behavior that would remove the banner so the screenshot preserves it.
To capture a Hindi page, pass its URL to the API. If the site needs a language preference, configure the request accordingly using the supported options in the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Replace the example URL with the page you need to document. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets can be removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. The MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card required.
8. Reliability and recordkeeping
- Preserve the untouched screenshot and store notes separately rather than annotating the only copy.
- For comparisons, keep URL, viewport, browser version, page position, language, and consent state consistent.
- If a screenshot will support a bug report, include the exact steps to reach the state and whether the session was fresh or reused.
- Remember that a screenshot documents visible appearance, not the site’s underlying consent behavior or persistence.
FAQ
Should I click “Accept” before taking the screenshot?
No, if you are documenting the banner as presented. Capture first, then make a separate capture after the choice if that state is relevant.
Does deleting a cookie guarantee the banner will return?
No. Consent state may be stored or managed in other ways, and site behavior varies.
Can I use a screenshot with the banner hidden as proof of consent?
No. Hiding an element in Inspector only changes the displayed page; it does not record a consent choice.
