How to Take a Screenshot on an HP OmniBook 5 Laptop

Use Windows+Prt Sc to save your HP OmniBook 5 screen, or Snipping Tool to capture a selected area, window, or full screen.

Fastest method: press Windows + Prt Sc. Windows saves the entire screen as a PNG in Pictures > Screenshots. If your OmniBook 5 does not respond, hold Fn as well: Fn + Windows + Prt Sc. HP notes that Print Screen may be abbreviated or labeled differently on some keyboards.

Choose the right screenshot method

What you need Shortcut or tool Result
Save the entire screen immediately Windows + Prt Sc PNG file in Pictures > Screenshots
Copy the entire screen Prt Sc Image on the clipboard; paste it elsewhere
Copy only the active window Shift + Prt Sc Active-window image on the clipboard
Select an area, window, or full screen Snipping Tool Capture, annotate, copy, or save

Save a full-screen screenshot as a file

  1. Arrange the desktop, app, or webpage exactly as you want it captured.
  2. Press Windows + Prt Sc together. The display briefly darkens when the capture is taken.
  3. If nothing happens, repeat the shortcut while holding Fn.
  4. Open File Explorer with Windows + E.
  5. Open Pictures, then Screenshots. The capture is a PNG with a sequential name such as Screenshot (1).png.

Where screenshots are saved

For the Windows+Print Screen shortcut, look in C:\Users\<your-name>\Pictures\Screenshots. In File Explorer, you can right-click a file and choose Open file location, or use the search box for Screenshot.

Copy a screenshot instead of saving it

Press Prt Sc to copy the whole screen to the clipboard. Some OmniBook keyboards require Fn + Prt Sc. Open Paint, Word, an email, a chat, or another image-capable app and press Ctrl + V. Save or export the pasted image from that app.

To copy only the currently focused window, press Shift + Prt Sc, then paste it into the destination app.

Capture part of the screen with Snipping Tool

  1. Open Start, type Snipping Tool, and launch it.
  2. Select a capture mode: Rectangular, Freeform, Window, or Full-screen.
  3. Choose New, then select the region or window.
  4. Use the Snipping Tool editor to mark up the image, copy it, or save it.

Snipping Tool is the practical choice for documentation, support tickets, and sharing one control or error message instead of your entire desktop.

Keyboard details on an OmniBook 5

  • Look for a key labeled Prt Sc, PrtSc, or a shortened Print Screen symbol.
  • On compact laptop keyboards, Print Screen may be a secondary function. Hold Fn while pressing it.
  • Use the exact key label printed on your keyboard; OmniBook 5 configurations can differ.
  • These instructions assume Windows. HP lists Windows 11 options for at least one OmniBook 5 16-inch configuration, while individual models can vary.

Make a better capture before pressing the shortcut

  • Close private tabs, passwords, notifications, and unrelated windows.
  • Maximize the app or browser if the reader needs the full context.
  • For a webpage, zoom to a readable level and scroll to the relevant section before using a window or region snip.
  • Use Snipping Tool when you need a pointer, highlight, crop, or annotation.
  • For a support report, include the error and the surrounding window title so the image has enough context.

Troubleshooting

Windows+Prt Sc does nothing

Try Fn + Windows + Prt Sc. Confirm that you are pressing the physical Print Screen key, not a similarly marked function key. If the display does not briefly darken, use Snipping Tool as a reliable fallback.

The screenshot is not in Pictures > Screenshots

You may have pressed Prt Sc alone, which copies to the clipboard rather than creating a file. Paste the result into Paint and save it, or repeat the Windows+Prt Sc shortcut. Also check that you are looking in the signed-in Windows account’s Pictures folder.

Only one monitor appears in the result

Windows+Prt Sc captures the desktop arrangement available to Windows. For a specific display or application, use Snipping Tool’s Window or Rectangular mode and select the intended monitor area.

The image contains sensitive information

Delete or crop the file before sharing. Snipping Tool can capture only the required region; a clipboard capture can be pasted into an editor for redaction.

The shortcut works inconsistently

Keyboard layouts, Fn behavior, and Windows settings differ between laptop configurations. Test both Print Screen combinations, then use Snipping Tool when you need a repeatable selection workflow.

Reliability, file format, and cost

Windows+Prt Sc creates a local PNG, so it does not require an internet connection or a subscription. The clipboard methods depend on the destination app retaining the copied image; save the image promptly if you need to preserve it. Snipping Tool gives you an explicit save action and is better when you need editing.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need screenshots of public webpages from code, ScreenshotNeo provides a GET endpoint that returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its capture process accepts cookie and consent banners before removing more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status.
