How to Screenshot a Mobile Website with a Fixed Bottom Banner on Android
Capture a mobile webpage with Android’s scrolling screenshot, understand what a fixed bottom banner may do, and learn the fallback options.
To capture a long mobile website on Android, open it in your browser, press Power + Volume Down, then tap Capture more and adjust the crop if that option appears. Android documents this feature for Android 12 and later on most screens that allow scrolling; availability and the final treatment of a fixed bottom banner can vary by device, browser, and page.
Take a scrolling screenshot on Android
- Open the website in your browser and navigate to the part of the page you want to capture.
- Press Power and Volume Down together. On some phones, you can instead hold the Power button and tap Screenshot.
- When the screenshot controls appear, tap Capture more.
- Drag the crop guidelines to include the page area you need. Check the bottom edge, where the fixed banner may remain visible.
- Save the capture or edit it from the screenshot preview. You can usually find saved screenshots in Google Photos under Collections → On this device → Screenshots; some devices use a Gallery app.
Google’s instructions apply to Android 12 and up and to most screens that allow scrolling. If you do not see Capture more, your device, browser, or the current screen may not support the scrolling capture workflow. Check your phone manufacturer’s support guidance if the button shortcut does not work. Google’s Android screenshot instructions.
Why the fixed bottom banner may stay visible
A mobile browser shows a viewport into a longer document. A website element styled with position: fixed is positioned relative to the layout viewport, so it stays in place as the document scrolls. That is why a fixed banner can remain at the bottom of the visible screen while page content moves behind it. Chrome’s viewport explanation.
Android’s instructions explain how to extend a screenshot, but they do not guarantee whether a particular capture will show a fixed banner once, repeatedly, or in another way. Inspect the saved image before sharing it. If the banner covers important content, try a normal screenshot with the banner visible, dismiss it if the site provides a legitimate close control, or use the manual fallback below.
Choose between a normal and scrolling screenshot
| Capture method | Use it when | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Normal screenshot | You need the current screen, or the banner itself is the subject. | Confirm the visible banner and page area fit in the frame. |
| Capture more | You need content beyond the current viewport and Android offers the option. | Review the crop and inspect how the fixed banner appears in the result. |
| Separate screenshots | Capture more is unavailable. | Take screenshots at successive scroll positions. The banner may repeat, and combining the images may require manual editing. |
Separate screenshots are a practical workaround, not a guaranteed seamless full-page capture. If you assemble them manually, align overlapping page content and watch for repeated banner areas or gaps.
Chrome on Android: bottom safe-area behavior
Chrome 135 introduced edge-to-edge drawing for small-screen Android devices, allowing web content to extend into the gesture-navigation-bar area. Chrome also describes a dynamic bottom bar that can move out of the way as the reader scrolls. The rollout uses Chrome Variations, so behavior depends on the browser version, device, and rollout state. Chrome’s edge-to-edge migration guide.
If you own the website, check whether the Android navigation area obscures a bottom-fixed banner. Chrome’s guidance recommends accounting for the bottom safe-area inset when positioning bottom content. This is a site implementation consideration; there is no screenshot setting that changes the page’s safe-area layout for you.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No screenshot controls appear | The button combination differs on the phone, or the buttons were not pressed together. | Try Power + Volume Down again. On some devices, hold Power and tap Screenshot; otherwise consult the manufacturer’s instructions. |
| There is no Capture more button | The device may be below Android 12, or the current screen may not support scrolling capture. | Take a normal screenshot at each needed scroll position. Treat combining them as a manual workaround. |
| The banner covers page text | The site keeps its banner fixed to the viewport while the document scrolls. | Adjust the capture crop, capture a screen where the banner does not obscure the needed text, or use separate screenshots. |
| The banner is partly under the navigation area | Edge-to-edge browser drawing or the site’s bottom positioning may place content near the gesture area. | Check the page at another scroll position. If you maintain the site, review Chrome’s safe-area guidance. |
| The result ends before the desired content | The selected crop does not include enough of the page, or the screen does not support extending capture further. | Reopen Capture more and extend the crop if possible; otherwise continue with successive normal screenshots. |
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a repeatable capture in a script or workflow, ScreenshotNeo takes a website screenshot with one GET request. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server gives AI agents screenshot, page-info, and PDF-capture tools. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. FAQ
Does Capture more remove the fixed banner?
Android’s instructions do not promise that. A fixed element remains attached to the viewport as the document scrolls, so inspect the resulting capture on your device.
Where are screenshots saved?
Google Photos commonly shows them under Collections → On this device → Screenshots. Your phone may use its Gallery app instead.
Can I make a full-page capture if Capture more is missing?
Take normal screenshots at successive scroll positions. This manual method can repeat fixed elements and may require editing to assemble.
