How to Capture a Website Screenshot on an Older Android Phone with Low Storage

Use Android’s built-in screenshot controls, find the image on older phones, and manage storage carefully. For long pages, check Android and Chrome options.

On most Android phones, open the webpage and press Power + Volume Down at the same time. The screenshot is usually saved in the phone’s Screenshots folder. This built-in method does not require installing an app or setting up browser tools.

If you need a whole webpage, Android’s built-in Capture more option is available on Android 12 and later for most screens that allow scrolling. Chrome also has a separate Long screenshot option in its Share menu. These options depend on the device, Android version, browser, and page.

1. Take a regular screenshot

  1. Open the webpage in your browser and move to the content you want to save.
  2. Press Power and Volume Down together. On many phones, hold them briefly until the screen flashes or a screenshot preview appears.
  3. Tap the preview if you want to review, crop, or share the image. Otherwise, leave it saved and find it in the Screenshots folder.

If the button combination does not work, Google documents another option: hold the Power button and tap Screenshot if that control appears. The exact controls vary by phone maker and model, so use the manufacturer’s support instructions for device-specific steps. See Google’s Android screenshot instructions.

2. Capture a long webpage

Android’s built-in scrolling screenshot

On Android 12 or later, take a screenshot first. If the screen supports scrolling capture, tap Capture more in the screenshot preview and adjust the crop guides to include the content you need. This works on most screens that allow scrolling, but not every app or page.

If Capture more does not appear, your phone may use an older Android version, or that screen may not support the feature. You can capture several ordinary screenshots while scrolling, or try Chrome’s browser-specific option below. Google’s instructions are at Take a screenshot or record your screen on Android.

Chrome’s Long screenshot option

  1. Open the webpage in Chrome.
  2. Tap More > Share… > Long screenshot.
  3. Adjust the crop handles, then confirm to save or share the result.

This is a Chrome workflow, not a feature guaranteed to appear in every browser or on every older phone. Follow Chrome’s Long screenshot instructions if the menu labels differ.

Incognito caveat: Chrome does not allow screenshots in Incognito. Open the page in a regular tab to capture it. See Chrome’s Incognito guidance.

3. Find the saved screenshot

  • In Google Photos, look under Collections > On this device > Screenshots.
  • On some older Android phones, use the phone’s Gallery app and open its Screenshots folder.

Google notes that not having the Photos app may indicate an older Android version. A screenshot is usually stored with screenshots, while a webpage or file downloaded through Chrome appears in Chrome’s Downloads workflow. See Google’s instructions for finding screenshots.

4. Make room without adding another app

Check Settings > Storage before capturing if the phone is nearly full. Menu names vary by manufacturer and Android version. If space is tight, review what is taking it up and remove only files you recognize and no longer need. Google’s Android storage guidance also describes reviewing files and copying files to a computer over USB.

Files by Google may show an Old screenshots cleanup card for screenshots created or received more than four weeks ago. Review the selected items before moving anything to Trash; do not assume every proposed file is safe to remove. Details are in Files by Google’s screenshot cleanup instructions.

Google’s general Android guidance says a phone can start having issues when less than 10% of storage is free. This is general device guidance, not a measurement of how much space a screenshot needs. Screenshot file size varies, so there is no reliable single size to promise for every webpage and phone.

Do not assume a particular phone supports a memory card or a specific external drive. Support depends on the model and its connections. For a one-time capture, the built-in screenshot controls avoid installing another screenshot app.

5. Troubleshooting

Problem Likely reason What to try
Power + Volume Down does nothing The buttons were not pressed together, the timing differs, or the maker uses another shortcut. Try again with both buttons at once. If available, hold Power and tap Screenshot. Check the phone maker’s instructions for the model.
There is no Capture more button The phone may be below Android 12, or the current screen may not support scrolling capture. Use Chrome’s Long screenshot option if it appears, or save a few regular screenshots as you scroll.
Chrome has no Long screenshot menu item The browser workflow may not be available in that version, device, or page context. Try the Android system capture if supported, update or use Chrome if appropriate for the device, or take regular screenshots.
Screenshot is blocked in Chrome The page is open in Incognito. Open it in a regular tab and capture it there.
The screenshot is missing from Photos The phone may use Gallery, or the image may not have been saved. Check Gallery’s Screenshots folder. Take another screenshot and look for its preview or save confirmation.
The phone reports low storage Other files or apps may be using most of the available space. Review Settings > Storage, remove files you have checked, or copy files to a computer if supported. Avoid deleting unfamiliar items just to make room.
A long screenshot cuts off or misses content The page or app may not support scrolling capture well, or content may load as you scroll. Try a shorter capture, allow the page to finish loading, or capture separate sections.

6. Or skip the browser setup

For a capture from a computer or server, ScreenshotNeo takes a webpage screenshot through one API request. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. The request below saves a WebP response as shot.webp; replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
    timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
const fs = await import('node:fs/promises');
await fs.writeFile('shot.webp', Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer()));

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

7. Quick checklist

  • Use Power + Volume Down for a regular screenshot.
  • For Android’s system scrolling capture, check that the phone runs Android 12 or later and look for Capture more.
  • In Chrome, check More > Share… > Long screenshot; use a regular tab, not Incognito.
  • Look in Photos or the phone’s Gallery Screenshots folder.
  • Check available storage and review cleanup suggestions before deleting files.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take a screenshot without installing an app?

Yes. The standard Android button shortcut is built in, and supported devices may also offer scrolling capture.

Will a screenshot save a webpage that is still loading?

It captures what is visible at the time. Wait for important content to appear before capturing; pages with content that loads later may need another attempt or separate captures.

Does deleting screenshots always free space immediately?

Do not count on an exact amount or timing. Review the device’s storage information after deleting items, and check whether deleted files remain in Trash.
