How to Take a Screenshot of a Webpage in Microsoft Edge
Use Microsoft Edge’s Screenshot tool to capture a full webpage or selected area, annotate it, then copy or save the result.
Quick answer: Open the page in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page for the entire webpage or Capture area for a selection, then mark up, copy or save the image. Microsoft now calls this feature Screenshot; older Edge documentation may call it Web capture.
How to screenshot a webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage you want to capture in Edge.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page to include content below the visible viewport, or choose Capture area and drag over one region.
- Review the result in the capture editor.
- Use the drawing or markup tools if required.
- Copy the image to the clipboard or save it to your device.
Microsoft documents Screenshot and the full-page workflow in its Edge Screenshot/Web capture instructions. Menu names and placement can differ by Edge version, device, market or administrator policy.
Open Screenshot without the keyboard shortcut
If Ctrl+Shift+S does not work, open Screenshot from one of these places:
- Settings and more (⋯): Open the browser menu and select Screenshot or Web capture.
- Right-click menu: Right-click the webpage and choose the Screenshot/Web capture command when it is available.
- Toolbar: Some Edge installations expose the command as a toolbar button that you can add or remove.
The exact label can change as Microsoft updates Edge. On a managed computer, the administrator can control whether the feature appears. Microsoft’s WebCaptureEnabled policy documentation says that enabling the policy, or leaving it unconfigured, makes the option available in the context menu, Settings and more menu and through Ctrl+Shift+S.
Full-page capture versus area capture
| Choice | Use it when | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Capture full page | You need the whole article, landing page or documentation page, including content below the fold. | A single tall webpage image. |
| Capture area | You need a chart, paragraph, image or other rectangular region. | Only the selected portion of the rendered page. |
Full-page capture follows the rendered webpage rather than only the pixels currently visible in the window. Very long or interactive pages can still produce unusual results if their content changes while Edge is capturing it.
Annotate, copy and save the capture
After Edge creates the capture, inspect it before sharing. The editor provides drawing or markup controls where supported. Use them to circle a control, obscure an area or add a quick explanation. Then choose the copy action to paste the image into another application, or save it as an image file for later use.
When Edge Screenshot is unavailable
The shortcut does nothing
- Try the Settings and more menu and the right-click menu.
- Check whether another application or keyboard utility has claimed the shortcut.
- Update Edge and restart it.
- If this is a work or school computer, ask whether the WebCaptureEnabled policy is disabled.
The Screenshot command is missing
Availability and functionality can vary by version, platform, market and policy. A managed installation may hide the command. The policy documentation linked above explains the administrator setting that controls it.
The result is not the whole page
Choose Capture full page, not Capture area. If the page loads content only after scrolling, wait for the page to finish loading and try again. Expand collapsed sections first when you need them included.
Lazy-loaded images or changing content are absent
Some sites load images, advertisements or application data only after interaction or scrolling. Wait until the content appears, dismiss overlays and repeat the capture. A page that continuously updates can never have a perfectly stable single frame.
Cookie banners, chat bubbles or popups cover the page
Close the overlay before starting Screenshot. If the site immediately recreates it, use the site’s preferences or capture a selected area that excludes it. Edge’s built-in feature captures what the browser renders; it does not automatically clean every third-party widget.
Edge Screenshot, Windows Snipping Tool and printing
These workflows solve different problems:
| Tool | Best for | Shortcut or command |
|---|---|---|
| Edge Screenshot | A webpage image, including a full-page capture or selected page area. | Ctrl+Shift+S |
| Windows Snipping Tool | A normal screen capture: rectangular, freeform, window or entire display. | Windows logo key+Shift+S |
| Edge printing | Print output or a PDF-style result. | Ctrl+P on Windows; Command+P on macOS |
Microsoft describes Snipping Tool separately from Edge’s webpage capture, and its print documentation covers printing selected page content. Printing is not the same as taking a screenshot.
Making repeatable webpage screenshots for development
Edge is convenient for a one-off manual capture. For documentation builds, visual regression checks or many URLs, use a repeatable capture process:
- Use a fixed viewport and browser version.
- Wait for the page’s important selector or network activity to finish.
- Set a consistent theme, timezone and locale.
- Dismiss consent dialogs and other overlays before capture.
- Save the URL, timestamp and capture settings with the image.
- Retry transient navigation failures and record failures separately from valid screenshots.
Automated browser code gives you these controls, but it also requires browser installation, sandbox configuration, navigation timeouts and maintenance as websites change.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. It accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before the capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for all options.

Useful capture options
ScreenshotNeo supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets or any viewport, retina scale, PDF paper size/margins/landscape/page ranges, HTML/CSS to image, custom CSS and JavaScript, pre-capture clicks, hidden selectors, waits for a selector/delay/network idle, blocking ads/trackers/requests/resource types, custom headers/cookies/user agent/Authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, image resizing, configurable-TTL caching, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. Common parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work.
Performance, reliability and cost notes
- Use caching with a TTL when the same page does not need a fresh render on every request.
- Use async jobs and signed webhooks for slow pages or large batches.
- Bulk capture handles up to 100 URLs per call.

FAQ
Can Edge capture a page longer than the screen?
Yes. Choose Capture full page; it is designed to include content below the visible viewport.
Is Web capture different from Screenshot?
They are the old and current names used for Edge’s webpage capture feature. The exact label depends on the Edge version and interface.
What shortcut captures a normal Windows screen region?
Use Windows logo key+Shift+S to open Windows Snipping Tool. For a webpage-specific full-page image, use Edge Screenshot instead.
Can I create a PDF instead of an image?
Use Edge’s print workflow when you need print output. For automated PDF capture, ScreenshotNeo’s capture_pdf MCP tool and PDF options are available through its API.
Why does a page look different in a screenshot?
Responsive layouts, animations, lazy loading, consent dialogs and personalized content can change the rendered result. Wait for the page to settle and capture again with the appropriate full-page or area mode.
