How to Take a Screenshot of a Website on iPhone

Capture a visible Safari page, save an entire webpage as an image or PDF, and troubleshoot common iPhone screenshot problems.

Quick answer: Open the website in Safari. On an iPhone without a Home button, quickly press and release the Side button and Volume Up together. On an iPhone with a Home button, quickly press and release the Side button and Home together. Tap the screenshot thumbnail, choose Full Page to include the rest of the Safari webpage, then save it as an image in Photos or as a PDF in Files.

1. Take a normal screenshot of the visible webpage

  1. Open Safari and load the webpage.
  2. Scroll to the part of the page you want visible in the capture.
  3. Take the screenshot using the button combination for your iPhone model:
    • Without a Home button: press and quickly release Side + Volume Up.
    • With a Home button: press and quickly release Side + Home.
  4. Tap the thumbnail that appears in the lower-left corner. If you do nothing, the screenshot is saved automatically to your photo library.

For a normal screenshot, the result contains the visible viewport only. Use the preview to crop it, mark it up, or share it.

2. Capture an entire Safari webpage with Full Page

Use Full Page when the page continues below the visible screen, such as an article, documentation page, receipt, or long form.

  1. Open the target webpage in Safari.
  2. Take a screenshot with the correct button combination.
  3. Tap the screenshot thumbnail before it disappears.
  4. At the top of the editor, tap Full Page.
  5. Review the long preview. Drag the crop handles if you want to remove part of the page.
  6. Choose the save action. Save an image to Photos, or choose Save PDF to Files for a full-page PDF.

The Full Page tab is the Safari webpage workflow for content beyond the visible screen. If you do not see it, make sure the screenshot was taken while Safari was the active app and that the thumbnail editor is open.

What Full Page includes

  • The webpage content represented in Safari’s long-page preview.
  • Content below the initial viewport, subject to the page loading correctly.
  • Your crop selection from the preview.

Dynamic pages can change while you capture them. Wait for images, menus, and other content you need to finish loading before taking the screenshot.

3. Save the result as an image or PDF

Goal Choose Where it goes
A picture of the webpage Full Page, then save as an image Photos
A portable long document Full Page, then Save PDF to Files Files
An annotated webpage document Safari Share → Markup → save The location selected in the save flow

Use the image route when another person or app needs a picture. Use PDF when the page needs to be filed, printed, or shared as a document. Safari’s separate Share → Markup route is useful when annotation is the main purpose; its layout is a PDF document workflow and should not be assumed to match the Full Page image exactly.

4. Other ways to trigger an iPhone screenshot

If a physical button combination is difficult, Apple also documents screenshot triggers including Siri, AssistiveTouch, and Back Tap. These still produce the normal screenshot preview, where Full Page may be available for a Safari webpage.

5. Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause Fix
The screen locks or volume changes instead of taking a screenshot The buttons were held too long or pressed at different times Press the two buttons together and release them quickly.
No thumbnail appears The screenshot completed but the preview was dismissed, or the timing was missed Try again and watch the lower-left corner immediately after releasing the buttons. Screenshots save automatically to Photos.
Full Page is missing The capture was not made in Safari, or the editor was closed Return to Safari, take a fresh screenshot, and tap its thumbnail before it disappears.
The long page ends early Content had not loaded, or the page did not expose more content to Safari’s preview Wait for images and expandable sections to load, scroll through the page once, then capture again. Some pages may not produce a complete long preview.
The capture is too large to share A full-page image contains substantially more pixels than a viewport screenshot Crop it in the preview, save a PDF instead, or share a reduced copy after saving.
The saved file is hard to find Images and PDFs use different destinations Check Photos for image captures and Files for PDFs. Review the save location shown by the Files picker.
A page looks different in the capture Responsive layout, lazy loading, cookies, or live content changed the page Set the desired zoom and scroll position, wait for the page to settle, and capture again.

6. Practical quality, storage, and reliability tips

  • Prepare the page first: dismiss overlays, expand sections you need, and wait for images to load.
  • Capture at the right scroll position: a normal screenshot records only the visible viewport.
  • Crop before sharing: remove browser details or unrelated page areas from the preview.
  • Watch storage: full-page images can be much larger than ordinary screenshots. PDF is often more convenient for long documents.
  • Repeat unstable captures: live feeds, ads, cookie prompts, and animations can change between attempts.
  • Protect private data: review the page and crop or mark out personal information before sharing.

7. Or skip the browser setup

If you need repeatable screenshots from code, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API. A GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. It can capture a full page, wait for a selector or network idle, load lazy images, use device presets, set a viewport and retina scale, apply custom CSS or JavaScript, hide selectors, block ads and trackers, set headers or cookies, and cache results with a TTL you choose. Each step can be turned off.

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed; response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed. It also has an MCP server for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients, with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools.

8. FAQ

Can I screenshot an entire webpage on iPhone?

Yes. In Safari, take a screenshot, tap the thumbnail, choose Full Page, and save the result as an image or PDF.

Where do iPhone screenshots go?

Image screenshots are saved to Photos. A full-page PDF is saved through the Files picker.

Can I screenshot a website as a PDF?

Yes. Use the screenshot thumbnail’s Full Page view and choose Save PDF to Files. Safari also has a separate Share → Markup save workflow for annotated webpage documents.

Do I need an app to screenshot a website?

No. Safari and the iPhone’s built-in screenshot controls handle visible and full-page captures. An API such as ScreenshotNeo is useful when captures must run repeatedly or from code.

Why is my full-page screenshot not available?

Full Page is tied to the Safari screenshot preview. Take a new screenshot in Safari and tap its thumbnail immediately.
