To take a scrolling screenshot of a web page in Microsoft Edge, open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page, then review and save the image. Edge captures content beyond the visible screen without requiring you to scroll manually.

Capture a full webpage in Edge

  1. Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge and wait for the content you need to appear.
  2. Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also open Settings and more (…) and select Screenshot or Web capture, depending on the label in your version. The right-click menu may also offer Screenshot.
  3. Select Capture full page. This captures the whole webpage; choose the area-capture option if you only need a selected region.
  4. Review the result. Add markup with the available pen or touch tools if useful, then copy or save the capture.

Microsoft has used the name Web Capture and now presents the feature as Screenshot. The wording and available menu entries can vary with Edge version and device management.

Full-page capture versus area capture

Option Use it for What to expect
Capture full page A complete webpage, including content below the current viewport Edge creates one tall capture; you do not need to scroll and stitch screenshots yourself.
Area capture A particular section or visible region You select the portion you want rather than capturing the entire page.

Edge lets you review the image and copy or save it. If your goal is to keep a screenshot in a notebook, OneNote Web Clipper is a separate option: its Full Page and Region modes save webpage screenshots in OneNote. Its Article mode saves editable text and images instead.

When Screenshot is missing or a capture is incomplete

  • The shortcut does nothing or the menu command is absent: look under Settings and more, the right-click menu, and check whether the command is called Screenshot or Web capture. On a work or school device, an administrator may have disabled it through browser policy.
  • You only need part of the page: choose area capture instead of Capture full page.
  • Some content is absent: wait for the page to finish loading and for the specific content to appear, then capture again. The available Microsoft documentation does not guarantee that every dynamically loaded or embedded element will be included.
  • You cannot find the saved image: use the save action in the capture review screen and note the destination offered by your browser or operating system. Use Copy if you want to paste the capture into another app.

Microsoft’s policy documentation says that when the WebCaptureEnabled policy is enabled or not configured, the command is available from the context menu and Settings and more menu, as well as by shortcut. A managed-device policy can therefore explain why the feature is unavailable.

Other built-in options

Windows Snipping Tool is useful for freeform, rectangular, window, or full-screen captures, along with editing and sharing. Microsoft’s documented Snipping Tool modes do not describe a full-page webpage capture, so use Edge’s Capture full page for a scrolling webpage.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need repeatable screenshots in a script or application, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request returns an image or PDF. Its clean-capture steps accept cookie and consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. AI agents can use its MCP server tools, including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.
