How to See Page Views in WordPress

Find page views in WordPress with Jetpack Stats, learn what the numbers include, and troubleshoot missing or delayed data.

To see page views in WordPress with Jetpack, sign in to your admin, open Stats → Traffic, and look for the traffic graph and popular posts and pages. If Stats is not active, enable it under Jetpack → Settings → Traffic. The Dashboard → Home screen may also show the Jetpack Stats widget. The Traffic report updates about every 30 minutes. Jetpack’s Traffic dashboard guide documents these locations and reports.

Find page views in the WordPress admin

  1. Sign in to your WordPress admin.
  2. If you do not see Stats, go to Jetpack → Settings → Traffic and activate Jetpack Stats. Follow any prompts to connect the site.
  3. Open Stats → Traffic.
  4. Choose a date range or breakdown to inspect the traffic graph and popular posts and pages.
  5. For a quick overview, return to Dashboard → Home and check for the Jetpack Stats widget.

To see recent views for a particular post or page in the admin list, Jetpack can add a Stats column to the Posts and Pages screens. The documented column shows the previous 30 days when Jetpack is installed and connected. See Jetpack’s instructions for the Posts and Pages lists.

What Jetpack means by a page view

Jetpack counts a view when someone directly loads a post, page, or archive URL. A person can create multiple views by visiting multiple pages or returning to the same page, so views can exceed visitors. The Posts & Pages grouping includes individual posts, static pages, and the homepage. Archive can include tag pages, search results, 404 pages, and author listings. Jetpack explains these traffic categories.

A visit to the URL of a password-protected page can count even if the visitor does not unlock the content. Private-page reporting depends on the visitor’s permissions and whether their role is configured for stats tracking.

What the free and paid Stats plans show

You do not need paid Stats just to view page views. Jetpack’s free plan includes views and visitors, top posts and pages, referrers, clicks, search terms, authors, downloads, video plays, insights, subscribers, and country-level locations. Paid Stats adds UTM statistics, device statistics, and region and city locations. Check Jetpack’s plan comparison for the documented feature split.

Why your numbers may differ from another analytics tool

Stats is not necessarily a count of every request made to your site. Jetpack says its default counts may omit visits from the logged-in site administrator, logged-in registered users, browsers that do not execute JavaScript or load images, and search-engine spiders such as Googlebot. You can configure whether some logged-in user views count. Its Traffic view updates every 30 minutes, so very recent activity may not appear yet. See Jetpack’s troubleshooting notes for details.

Other analytics services can measure visits differently, use different filtering rules, or report on a different schedule. Treat small differences as a reason to compare definitions and settings before assuming one dashboard is broken.

Troubleshoot missing or unexpected views

Symptom Likely cause What to check
No Stats menu Stats is not enabled, or Jetpack is not connected. Open Jetpack → Settings → Traffic and enable Stats. Confirm the site connection if prompted.
Recent views are missing The report has not refreshed yet. Allow up to the documented 30-minute update interval, then reload Traffic.
Your own visit is not counted Logged-in administrators or registered users may be excluded by default. Review the logged-in user tracking setting. Use another suitable visitor context when checking whether public tracking works.
Some visits never appear Visitors may block JavaScript or images, or the visit may be from a search-engine spider. Remember that Jetpack Stats can omit these visits; compare with the same measurement definition in any other analytics tool.
Stats is active but no views record The theme may not call WordPress’s footer hook, which Jetpack identifies as a troubleshooting item. Check that the active theme supports wp_footer() and that it runs on the affected page. Ask the theme developer if you do not maintain the theme.
Stats appear under unexpected content labels after a migration WordPress post or page IDs may have changed. Jetpack ties stats to content IDs rather than URLs. Check the migration’s ID mapping and Jetpack’s troubleshooting guidance.

For a focused check, compare a known public post’s Stats column with its entry in Traffic, allowing for the reporting delay and the different date windows. Avoid treating one test visit as proof of a tracking failure: your role, browser settings, and the report’s update interval can affect what you see.

Jetpack and Google Analytics: an important integration change

Jetpack Stats can be used alongside other analytics services. However, Jetpack’s Google Analytics integration stopped being included for self-hosted Jetpack installations with version 13.7, effective August 2024. WordPress.com-hosted sites continue to support that integration. Do not follow older self-hosted setup instructions as if the integration were still included. Jetpack’s Google Analytics documentation describes the change.

Privacy details

Jetpack says Stats does not show site owners data that explicitly identifies an individual visitor. Its documentation says logs that may contain visitor IP addresses and WordPress.com usernames are retained for 28 days. These are details about Jetpack’s data visibility and retention; they are not a general guarantee of legal compliance. Review the service’s current privacy documentation and your own site requirements when choosing analytics.

Capture a page for a visual review

A screenshot can help document what a page looked like while you review its analytics, but it does not measure page views. For a manual capture, open the public page in a browser and use the browser’s screenshot or print-to-PDF feature. Keep the date range and page URL with your notes so the visual record is not mistaken for traffic data.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need a repeatable screenshot of a public page while documenting your WordPress review, ScreenshotNeo returns an image or PDF from one request. It does not provide WordPress page-view analytics.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options and response details. Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. An MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card required.

FAQ

Can I see page views without paying for Jetpack Stats?

Yes. Jetpack documents views, visitors, and top posts and pages as part of its free Stats plan.

Why are views higher than visitors?

A visitor may load several pages or revisit one page. Views count those page loads; visitors count people or visitor identities as represented by the report.

Does a screenshot tell me how many views a page received?

No. A screenshot records the page’s appearance. Use Stats or another analytics service to measure traffic.
