How to Send Website Screenshots to a WhatsApp Group Using Pabbly Connect
Build a Pabbly workflow that captures a webpage and sends its image to a WhatsApp group. The key is choosing a connector that supports your specific group.
To send a website screenshot to a WhatsApp group with Pabbly Connect, build a workflow with three parts: a trigger that supplies the page URL, a screenshot action, and a WhatsApp action that explicitly supports sending an image to your intended group. Pabbly lists a Capture Website Screenshot action under HTML to Image and a Send Image To Group action under WhatsScale. Those are separate integrations; a media action in another WhatsApp connector does not prove that it can post to an existing group. Check group support with the provider before building around it. Pabbly’s WhatsScale integration listing and HTML to Image integration listing show the relevant actions.
The basic flow is: website event or webhook → screenshot from URL → image accessible to the WhatsApp provider → group image message. For Pabbly’s demonstrated website-form route, the image URL must be publicly accessible. A recipient-oriented WhatsApp Cloud API image action is not evidence that the same connector can send to any WhatsApp group.
1. Confirm the group and connector first
Before configuring the screenshot step, identify the exact WhatsApp group and provider account that will send the message. Pabbly lists WhatsScale’s group image action, but availability in a listing does not establish eligibility for your account or target group. Confirm that the provider can send an image to that group, and that you can authorize the required connection.
Do not assume that an integration labeled WhatsApp, or an action that sends an image to a contact, can post to a group. For example, Pabbly’s Cloud API tutorial describes mapping an image URL and recipient number for a template-message route. That is a recipient flow; it does not establish support for arbitrary existing groups. See Pabbly’s Cloud API tutorial and verify the current provider behavior directly.
2. Create the Pabbly workflow and trigger
- In Pabbly Connect, create a workflow and give it a name that identifies its purpose, such as “Send page screenshot to group.” Pabbly describes a workflow as a trigger followed by one or more action steps.
- Choose a trigger based on when a screenshot should be sent. Use a website form or event if the page URL arrives with that event. If your website can send an HTTP request, choose Web by Pabbly and create a webhook trigger. Pabbly’s website-to-WhatsApp tutorial uses this webhook pattern.
- Copy the generated webhook URL. Configure the website or form to send the page URL and any desired caption to that endpoint. Use a field name such as
urlfor the page address andcaptionfor the message text, or record the field names your source actually sends. - Put the workflow in its webhook-listening or capture mode, then submit a sample event. Confirm the captured data contains the full page URL and caption. Map the URL field from the real sample in later steps; do not type a changing page URL as a fixed value unless every run should capture the same page.
For a website form, the conceptual payload can be a POST request like the examples below. Replace the placeholder with the webhook URL Pabbly generated and use a page you control. These examples only send trigger data; the screenshot and WhatsApp actions are configured in Pabbly.
curl -X POST 'YOUR_PABBLY_WEBHOOK_URL' \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
--data '{"url":"https://example.com/","caption":"Latest page screenshot"}'
import requests
webhook_url = "YOUR_PABBLY_WEBHOOK_URL"
payload = {
"url": "https://example.com/",
"caption": "Latest page screenshot",
}
response = requests.post(webhook_url, json=payload, timeout=30)
response.raise_for_status()
print("Webhook accepted:", response.status_code)
const webhookUrl = 'YOUR_PABBLY_WEBHOOK_URL';
const response = await fetch(webhookUrl, {
method: 'POST',
headers: { 'Content-Type': 'application/json' },
body: JSON.stringify({
url: 'https://example.com/',
caption: 'Latest page screenshot'
})
});
if (!response.ok) throw new Error(`Webhook failed: ${response.status}`);
console.log('Webhook accepted:', response.status);
3. Add the webpage screenshot action
- Add an action and select the HTML to Image integration that exposes Capture Website Screenshot.
- Connect or configure the integration if Pabbly prompts for it. Select the screenshot-from-URL action and map its URL input to the URL captured by your trigger.
- Run a test action and inspect the output. Establish whether the action returns an image file, a file-like output, or an image URL. The integration listing establishes that it can capture a website from a URL, but it does not specify every field, format, or output mapping. Use the fields shown in your connected account’s current Pabbly action.
- Make sure the result can be passed to the selected WhatsApp action. If that action requires a public image URL and the screenshot step returns a file rather than a public URL, add a storage or hosting step that produces a publicly fetchable URL, then map that URL into the WhatsApp action.
Keep the image URL accessible to the WhatsApp provider when it fetches the media. A URL that works only in your logged-in browser, expires too soon, requires cookies, or is blocked from external requests may fail during delivery. Pabbly’s tutorial specifically says its demonstrated image URL must be publicly accessible.
4. Send the image to the group
- Add a WhatsScale action and select Send Image To Group, if that action is available and your WhatsScale account supports the intended group.
- Connect the account and select the target group using the values exposed by the integration. Confirm the target carefully; test in a permitted test group first.
- Map the screenshot output or publicly accessible image URL to the action’s image field. Map the trigger caption if the action offers a caption field.
- Test the entire workflow with a known page. Confirm the destination group, that WhatsApp receives an image rather than just a link, and that the image is readable on a phone.
- Only then enable the workflow for real events. Submit a second test with a different page URL to make sure the workflow uses the trigger’s changing URL rather than a hard-coded test value.
If you choose a different WhatsApp integration, verify its exact group capability and media requirements independently. Pabbly’s D7/HTML to Image listing includes media actions, while the WhatsScale listing names a group-image action; those listings refer to distinct integrations. Do not infer group support from one provider’s action list.
5. Choose the right trigger and mapping
| Use case | Trigger approach | What to map |
|---|---|---|
| A form submission includes a page URL | Website form to Web by Pabbly webhook | The submitted URL and optional caption |
| Your site has a backend event | Send an HTTP request to the Pabbly webhook | The page URL, caption, and any identifier useful for tracing the event |
| You always capture one fixed page | A suitable scheduled or manual trigger, if available in your workflow setup | A fixed URL and optional caption |
Use the trigger’s sample data to map fields rather than relying on guessed names. If the source sends a URL in a nested object or uses a different property name, select that actual field. Avoid including private tokens or personal data in a group caption.
6. Make the workflow reliable
- Validate the URL: Send a complete URL including
https://. Reject or filter empty values before the screenshot action. - Use a stable page: Pages behind login, bot checks, or interactive flows may not render the same way to a remote screenshot service. Test the real target page, not just a public demo.
- Check dynamic rendering: If the page depends on client-side data, ensure the capture action waits long enough for the important content to appear. The available listing does not document a specific wait option, so use only controls actually exposed by your connected action.
- Keep media available: If an intermediate storage URL expires, the WhatsApp provider may fetch it too late. Use an accessible URL with sufficient lifetime for the provider’s fetch and delivery.
- Prevent duplicate posts: If the trigger can be retried, consider adding an event identifier and a deduplication step available in your workflow. At minimum, inspect workflow history before replaying a failed run.
- Test group scope: Confirm the group is still selectable and the sending account remains authorized. A successful screenshot does not prove that the final message can be posted.
- Limit sensitive content: Screenshots can expose account details or user data. Capture only pages appropriate for the destination group and avoid sending secrets in URLs.
7. Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No workflow run appears | The website did not call the generated webhook, or the sample trigger was not listening. | Copy the current webhook URL from the workflow, submit a new event while Pabbly is capturing, and check that the source received a successful HTTP response. |
| The screenshot step has no URL | The URL was not included in the trigger sample or the wrong field was mapped. | Capture a fresh sample that includes the page address, then remap the screenshot input to that exact field. |
| The capture fails or is blank | The URL is malformed, the page is unavailable to the capture service, or the page has not rendered its content. | Open the URL independently, check redirects and access restrictions, and retry with a stable public page. If the action exposes wait controls, use an appropriate wait setting. |
| WhatsApp sends a link instead of an image | The action received a URL in a text field, or the selected action sends a link rather than image media. | Use the provider’s image/media action and map the screenshot URL to its image field. Test the provider’s actual behavior in the target group. |
| The provider cannot fetch the image | The URL is private, expired, requires browser authentication, or does not resolve to an accessible image. | Use an externally accessible image URL with enough lifetime, then test that it can be fetched without a logged-in session. |
| Image goes to a contact but not the group | The selected integration action supports recipients or contacts but not the target group. | Choose a provider and action that explicitly supports group image delivery, such as the WhatsScale group action if eligible, and confirm account support with that provider. |
| Caption or image is missing | The optional field was not mapped, or the action expects a different input type. | Inspect the connected action’s fields and test each mapping with a short caption and a known image URL. |
| Duplicate group posts | A trigger retry or manual replay repeated a previously completed run. | Check run history before replaying and add deduplication based on a stable event ID if your workflow supports it. |
8. Performance, reliability, and cost considerations
Each event involves at least a trigger, a webpage capture, and a WhatsApp media send. If a public image URL is needed, storage adds another step. The capture and media-fetch stages depend on the target site and chosen providers, so allow enough time for the page to render and the final provider to retrieve the image. The supplied Pabbly listings do not publish a guaranteed execution time or a benchmark for this workflow.
Keep screenshots reasonably scoped to the information the group needs. A full-page capture can be large and harder to read in chat; if the action exposes dimensions or capture controls, choose settings that make the relevant content legible without including unrelated page content. Check the current plans and usage terms for Pabbly and each connected provider directly; pricing and account eligibility are not established by the integration listings here.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. You can call its API from a Pabbly HTTP/request step if your workflow can pass the returned image onward, or use the code below in your own backend to capture the page before sending its image URL through the workflow. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request details. The capture call alone does not send a WhatsApp message; you still need a WhatsApp provider with verified support for your target group.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" \
-d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY \
--data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com \
-o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
with open("shot.webp", "wb") as image_file:
image_file.write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({
access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY',
url: 'https://stripe.com'
});
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
const image = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
await import('node:fs/promises').then(fs => fs.writeFile('shot.webp', image));
- Cookie banners and consent overlays are accepted or removed before the screenshot; newsletter popups and chat widgets are removed too, and each cleanup step can be turned off.
- Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed; response headers say which page verdict occurred and whether the request was billed.
- An MCP server provides
take_screenshot,get_page_info, andcapture_pdftools for AI agents and MCP clients. - The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

FAQ
Can I use the WhatsApp Cloud API action to post to an existing group?
The cited Pabbly Cloud API tutorial documents a recipient-number image flow, not general posting to an existing group. Verify the exact group capability with the connector and account you plan to use.
Does the screenshot have to be hosted publicly?
For the image-URL delivery route shown in Pabbly’s tutorial, yes: the image URL must be publicly accessible to the sending route. If your chosen action accepts a file object directly, follow that action’s current requirements instead.
Can Pabbly create an image from HTML instead of a webpage URL?
Pabbly’s HTML to Image listing also names a separate Generate Image from HTML and CSS action. Use it when your input is markup and styles rather than an already hosted webpage.
Will every WhatsApp provider show the same groups?
No. Group support depends on the specific integration, account, and target group. Confirm these before enabling the workflow.
