How to Set a Social Preview Image for a Shopify Store in Hindi

Set your Shopify store’s social sharing image in Preferences, learn which page images take priority, and troubleshoot stale or unexpected previews.

To set a social preview image for a Shopify store, open Online Store > Preferences in Shopify admin. Under Social sharing image and SEO, choose Add image or Change image, select the image from your device, and click Save. Shopify’s Hindi help uses the labels ऑनलाइन स्टोर > प्राथमिकताएं, सोशल शेयरिंग इमेज और SEO, इमेज जोड़ें, and सेव करें.

This image is the store-wide fallback for social previews. A product, collection, or blog post may use its own featured image instead, and theme code or theme settings can take priority over the Preferences image. [Shopify: Choosing a social media image; Hindi help]

Set the image in Shopify admin

  1. Sign in to your Shopify admin.
  2. Go to Online Store > Preferences (ऑनलाइन स्टोर > प्राथमिकताएं).
  3. Scroll to Social sharing image and SEO (सोशल शेयरिंग इमेज और SEO).
  4. Click Add image (इमेज जोड़ें) to set the image for the first time. To replace it, click Change image (इमेज बदलें).
  5. Choose the image file from your device.
  6. Click Save (सेव करें).

Shopify’s preferences page also describes adding an optional social media image in this section while setting the homepage title and meta description. [Shopify: Setting your online store preferences]

Know which image Shopify uses

The Preferences image is a fallback, not a command that overrides every page’s image. Shopify documents this priority order:

  1. Images hard-coded in the theme files.
  2. Images uploaded in theme settings for social media or checkout.
  3. The default social sharing image uploaded in Online Store Preferences.

In Shopify’s free themes, product pages, collection pages, and blog posts use their featured images for social sharing. Pages without a featured image, such as the homepage or an About page, use the store’s social sharing image. A particular theme can also rely on its own social media settings. [Shopify: Choosing a social media image]

Choose the right setting for the page

What you want to change Where to look
Default image for store pages without another image Online Store > Preferences > Social sharing image and SEO
Preview for a product, collection, or blog post The page’s featured image, where supported by the theme
Image set across the theme or checkout Theme settings, including Social media or Social sharing and Checkout > Logo
Image specified directly by the theme Theme files; this can outrank both theme settings and Preferences

If only one product or article has the wrong thumbnail, first check that page’s featured image. If the homepage has the wrong thumbnail, inspect theme settings and then the Preferences fallback.

Verify the social preview

  1. Save the image in Shopify and open the exact public page URL you intend to share.
  2. Check that page’s featured image and the theme’s social-sharing settings if the preview does not match the store-level image.
  3. Use the destination platform’s preview or crawler tool to inspect the link. Shopify lists Twitter’s Card Validator, Facebook’s Crawler, and LinkedIn’s Post Inspector. For Facebook, Shopify recommends the Sharing Debugger to refresh saved information for a link.
  4. Allow time for the platform to update its cached preview. Shopify notes that Facebook can store images for a number of days before checking for updates; do not assume every service refreshes immediately.

A stale image in a search engine result is a separate issue from a social preview. Shopify’s preferences guidance says a sitemap may need to be submitted again for an updated search result; that does not itself refresh social-platform caches. Troubleshooting

Symptom Likely cause What to do
The Preferences image field is blank The theme may be sourcing the share image from its own settings. Check Theme settings > Checkout > Logo and the theme’s Social media or Social sharing setting. If neither has an image, upload one in Preferences.
The uploaded image does not appear in a shared post The theme may only use images set in its theme settings. Set or check the image in the theme’s social media settings as well as Preferences.
A product or article shows a different thumbnail That page has its own featured image, or a higher-priority theme image is set. Check the page’s featured image, then inspect theme settings and theme files if needed.
The preview still shows the old image The social platform may have cached the earlier page data. Use that platform’s crawler or preview tool; for Facebook, use Sharing Debugger to refresh the stored information. Allow for cache delay.
A search result shows an old image Search results and social previews are updated by different systems. Follow Shopify’s search guidance about resubmitting the sitemap if needed; separately refresh the social preview using the relevant platform tool.

Shopify’s documentation does not give a recommended image dimension in the cited guidance, so this setup guide does not prescribe one. Use an image suitable for the social service where you plan to share the link, then verify the rendered preview with that service’s tools.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need to inspect how a Shopify page renders after changing its social image, ScreenshotNeo can capture the page as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF with one GET request. Its cookie handling can accept consent banners and remove known consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers say whether the page was clean and billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, inspect page information, and capture PDFs.

For example, this cURL request saves a WebP capture of the Shopify page:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://your-store.myshopify.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. One thousand screenshots per month are free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Sign up for free ScreenshotNeo screenshots.

FAQ

Does the Preferences image replace product images?

No. In Shopify’s free themes, product pages use their featured images for social sharing. The Preferences image fills in when a page has no other image, subject to the documented theme priority.

Do I need to set a different image for every page?

Only when you want page-specific previews. Set featured images on pages that should have distinct thumbnails; use Preferences for the store-wide fallback.

Why is the Hindi menu wording different from my admin?

Shopify’s help page provides Hindi labels for the same Preferences path. Admin labels can vary with the language selected for your Shopify interface.
