SingleFile Extension Not Showing in Chrome Toolbar: Fix and Enable It

Pin SingleFile from Chrome’s Extensions menu. If it is missing, disabled, corrupted, or marked unsupported, follow the matching fix.

If the SingleFile icon is missing from Chrome’s toolbar, open the Extensions menu (the puzzle-piece icon), find SingleFile, and select Pin. If SingleFile is not in that menu, check whether it is installed and enabled at More > Extensions > Manage extensions. The right fix depends on what Chrome shows there: hidden, absent, switched off, corrupted, or unsupported.

Pin SingleFile to the Chrome toolbar

  1. In Chrome, select the puzzle-piece Extensions button near the right side of the toolbar.
  2. Find SingleFile in the list.
  3. Select its Pin control. The SingleFile icon should now appear in the toolbar.

Chrome’s Extensions menu is where hidden extensions can be pinned back to the toolbar. Pinning changes visibility; it does not install or enable an extension that is missing or turned off. Google’s extension management instructions cover pinning and the other states below.

Check whether SingleFile is installed and enabled

  1. Open Chrome’s three-dot More menu.
  2. Choose Extensions, then Manage extensions.
  3. Look for SingleFile and check its state.
  • SingleFile is listed and on: return to the Extensions menu and pin it.
  • SingleFile is listed but off: switch it on, then pin it from the Extensions menu.
  • SingleFile is not listed: it is not present in this Chrome profile’s installed extensions. Install it from the SingleFile Chrome Web Store listing, then check the Extensions menu again. The SingleFile project also lists the Chrome Web Store as an installation route.

Chrome’s extension management page provides the on/off control. A browser can have multiple profiles, so make sure you are checking the profile where you expect to use SingleFile.

Fix a corrupted or unsupported extension

Chrome says SingleFile is corrupted

On Manage extensions, select Repair for SingleFile if Chrome offers that control. Once Chrome finishes, check that the extension is enabled and pin it from the Extensions menu.

Chrome says SingleFile is unsupported

This is a compatibility state, separate from toolbar pinning. Follow Chrome’s instructions shown for the unsupported extension. Google says an unsupported extension may be re-enabled temporarily for a limited period. On a managed browser, an administrator can control whether unsupported extensions are re-enabled through Chrome Enterprise Policy.

If the controls are unavailable or a policy message appears, ask your organization’s administrator. Do not assume that pinning can override a browser policy.

Use SingleFile after its icon is available

SingleFile saves a page using its toolbar button. Its Chrome Web Store listing also documents Ctrl+Shift+Y for saving the current or selected tabs. The available source material does not establish whether that shortcut works when the toolbar icon is hidden, so pinning the icon is the direct way to make the button accessible.

See the SingleFile project documentation and its Chrome Web Store listing for the extension’s installation and usage details.

Troubleshooting by what Chrome shows

What you see Likely state What to do
SingleFile appears in the puzzle-piece menu, but not beside it Installed and available, but not pinned Select its Pin control in the Extensions menu.
SingleFile is absent from the Extensions menu It may not be installed in this profile Check Manage extensions. If absent there too, install it from the Chrome Web Store.
SingleFile appears on Manage extensions but is off Installed but disabled Switch it on, then pin it from the Extensions menu.
Chrome marks it corrupted Chrome detected an extension problem Use Repair on Manage extensions if offered.
Chrome marks it unsupported Chrome’s compatibility controls apply Follow Chrome’s unsupported-extension instructions. For managed browsers, contact the administrator if controls are restricted.
The extension controls are unavailable A browser or organization policy may be controlling extensions Check for a management notice and ask the administrator about the policy.

For a simple missing toolbar icon, start with the Extensions menu. Reinstalling, resetting SingleFile settings, or disabling unrelated extensions is not established by the cited guidance as a fix for pinning.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need an image or PDF capture of a webpage rather than a saved page file, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Make one GET request with the target URL. For example, this cURL command saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for free and get 1,000 screenshots a month with no card.

FAQ

Does pinning SingleFile install it?

No. Pinning only makes an available extension visible in the toolbar. If it is missing, check Manage extensions and install it if needed.

Will pinning fix an unsupported-extension warning?

No. Unsupported status is a separate Chrome compatibility or policy state. Follow Chrome’s instructions, and contact an administrator if the browser is managed.

Does SingleFile save pages as screenshots?

SingleFile is documented as a page-saving extension. ScreenshotNeo provides webpage screenshots and PDFs through an API or MCP server, which serves a different capture need.
