How to Track Target Prices and Get Deal Alerts

Set a target for the exact product you want, choose a tracker that covers its retailer, and verify the live offer when an alert arrives.

To track a target price, open the product in a tracker supported in your region, confirm the exact model and variant, set a price threshold if the tool offers one, and enable notifications. When an alert arrives, reopen the retailer listing and check the current seller, variant, shipping, stock, and total before buying. Prices can change between an alert and checkout.

Start with the retailer’s own tools when available. For products across stores, Google Shopping or Chrome’s price tracking may fit better. For Amazon listings, Keepa and CamelCamelCamel offer price history and alerts. These tools help you watch prices; they do not guarantee that an alert reflects the best available offer.

1. Choose the tracking method that covers your product

Method Useful for What to know
Amazon price history and alerts Eligible Amazon products Amazon documents 30-, 90-, and 365-day history. Availability and the rollout of the 365-day view vary by region. Its optional Auto-Buy can place an order when the target is met, so treat it as purchase authorization, not a notification setting. Amazon’s price history guide and Amazon’s Auto-Buy description.
Google Shopping price tracking Products represented in Google Shopping Signed-in users can select a product, choose a variant where offered, optionally set a target, and receive push notifications and email when the price falls below it. Google lists the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan, and India; feature availability can vary by device and Google surface. Google’s price tracking help.
Chrome Shopping Insights Eligible product pages across the web Shows price history and a price range, including for some variants. Google lists Australia, Canada, India, Japan, and the U.S. Requirements include Chrome sign-in, tab and history sync, and the “Make searches and browsing better” setting. Chrome Shopping Insights help.
Keepa Amazon-focused tracking Keepa advertises Amazon price-history charts and price-drop alerts. Its claim that it tracks over 7 billion Amazon products is Keepa’s own coverage claim, not an independent measurement. Keepa.
CamelCamelCamel Amazon-focused price watches Offers price-history charts, email alerts for price watches, and the Camelizer browser extension. CamelCamelCamel features.

No comparative alert-latency or accuracy results are established by these cited sources. Choose based on retailer coverage, notification method, target-price support, and the history view you need.

2. Set up a target price and notifications

  1. Open the exact listing. Check model, size, color, storage, bundle contents, and other options. A tracker may group similar variants; select the one you would actually buy.
  2. Look at the price history. Use the available history window to judge whether your target is plausible. A sale badge alone does not show whether the current price is low relative to recent prices.
  3. Set a threshold. Enter the maximum item price you are willing to pay, if supported. Decide whether that number includes shipping and taxes; many trackers may display the product price rather than your final checkout total.
  4. Enable delivery. Sign in where required and allow push notifications or email. For Google Shopping, notifications must be on. Chrome also has account, sync, region, and opt-in requirements.
  5. Keep a record of the listing. Save the retailer URL and chosen variant so you can identify the same offer later.
  6. Verify before checkout. Open the listing again, confirm the offer and seller, and calculate the total with shipping, taxes, and any coupon conditions.

3. Amazon price history and target alerts

Amazon’s price history guide says eligible customers can view 30-, 90-, and 365-day ranges from a product detail page or by asking Alexa for Shopping. The guide lists the U.S., UK, Canada, and India for price history, and says 365-day views were rolling out in the U.S., UK, and India at the time it was updated. Availability can differ, so check the product page in your account. See Amazon’s current guidance.

Amazon also documents setting target-price alerts. An alert tells you the price condition was met; Auto-Buy goes further and can automatically purchase at the threshold using your default payment method. Read the controls carefully and leave Auto-Buy off unless you explicitly want the item purchased without another approval step. Amazon describes target alerts and Auto-Buy.

4. Track through Google Shopping or Chrome

Google Shopping

  1. Sign in to your Google Account on the web or in the Google app.
  2. Search for the product and open its product card.
  3. Tap Track price. If options such as color or size appear, choose the precise variant.
  4. Set a target price if you want a threshold, then confirm tracking.
  5. Allow Google app notifications and check that the email address on the account is accessible.

Google says users receive push notifications and email when a tracked item falls below the selected target. It lists availability in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan, and India, and notes that not every feature appears on every device or Google surface. Google’s setup and availability details.

Chrome Shopping Insights

On an eligible product page in Chrome, open Shopping Insights to see price history or turn on “Save and track price.” Chrome’s help page lists Australia, Canada, India, Japan, and the U.S. as supported regions and requires Google sign-in, tab and history sync, and the “Make searches and browsing better” setting for tracking and notifications. Check Chrome’s sync and Google services settings if the controls are missing. Chrome’s requirements and instructions.

5. Amazon-focused alternatives: Keepa and CamelCamelCamel

Keepa advertises Amazon price-history charts and price-drop alerts. CamelCamelCamel offers Amazon price history, email price watches, and a browser extension called the Camelizer. Compare them by checking whether your exact product is listed, which price types appear, how you want alerts delivered, and whether you prefer a website or browser extension. The cited product pages do not establish a fair comparison of alert speed or accuracy, so do not assume one will notify sooner. Keepa · CamelCamelCamel.

6. Read an alert before acting

  • Match the item: Verify model, variant, condition, and bundle contents against the one you tracked.
  • Check who sells it: A different merchant or marketplace seller can change delivery, returns, or warranty terms.
  • Check the full price: Include shipping, taxes, required memberships, coupons, and minimum order requirements.
  • Confirm stock and timing: The offer may have expired, sold out, or changed after the alert was generated.
  • Compare price context: A discount label is a prompt to inspect the price history, not proof that it is the lowest available price.

Prices are dynamic. Google explicitly warns that prices can change; CamelCamelCamel also advises checking Amazon before purchase. An alert is a reason to revisit the listing, not a reservation of the offer. Google price tracking guidance · CamelCamelCamel feature notes.

7. Troubleshooting missing or unhelpful alerts

Problem Likely cause What to check
No “Track price” control The item, device, region, or Google surface may not be eligible. Try the product card in the Google app or web, confirm supported region and sign-in, or check the retailer’s own tracker.
Chrome Shopping Insights is absent Region, account, sync, or opt-in requirement is unmet, or the page is not eligible. Check Chrome sign-in, tab/history sync, and “Make searches and browsing better”; eligibility varies by product and region.
Alerts do not arrive Push notifications or email settings are off, or the account is different from the one used to track. Review Google app and device notification permissions, email filters, and the signed-in account. Confirm the item remains tracked.
The alert price does not match checkout Prices changed or shipping, taxes, seller, coupons, or variant differ. Open the live listing and compare the exact offer and final total before buying.
The alert is for the wrong variant The tracked card grouped related options or defaulted to another choice. Open tracking settings and select the intended color, size, capacity, or model again.
Target never triggers The price may not have crossed the target, the item may not be tracked, or the tool may not cover that seller. Confirm the watch is active, adjust an unrealistic threshold if appropriate, and inspect another supported tracker. Do not infer an alert guarantee.
Unexpected Amazon purchase Auto-Buy may have been enabled. Review Amazon’s purchase automation settings and order status. Keep Auto-Buy disabled unless you authorize automatic purchase.

8. Reliability, performance, and cost

For an individual shopper, a retailer or platform tracker usually takes less setup than repeatedly checking a listing. Google and Chrome tracking require supported access and settings; an Amazon-specific watch is useful only for products it covers. None of the cited sources establishes alert latency or uninterrupted monitoring, so keep a saved listing and verify the offer yourself when notified.

These consumer tracking options are platform features or services. The cited source set does not establish a common price comparison across all services, nor does it show independent savings or accuracy studies. Keepa’s product-count figure is its own coverage claim. No external price tracker is needed to use ScreenshotNeo; it captures webpages and does not monitor prices, create target alerts, or notify you when a price changes.

9. Save a visual record of a product listing

If you want a dated visual reference for a listing you are already tracking, capture the page after opening the exact variant and offer. A screenshot can help you compare what the page showed at that moment, but it does not establish the final checkout price or replace a price tracker. Avoid capturing personal account details or payment information.

You can take a screenshot manually in your browser, or use a screenshot API to capture a page. For a visual record of a product page, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its screenshot is a page capture, not price history or a deal alert.

Or skip the browser setup

Use ScreenshotNeo’s one-call API to capture a product listing page. Replace the example URL with a public product listing you want to record. The API returns an image; this does not track price changes.

FAQ

Does an alert mean I should buy immediately?

No. Reopen the listing and verify that the offer still applies to the item and variant you want, including seller and total price.

Can I use a screenshot API to set a price alert?

No. ScreenshotNeo captures a webpage when requested; it does not watch prices or send deal alerts. Use a retailer or shopping tracker for that.

Can Amazon’s target price trigger an order?

Amazon documents an optional Auto-Buy feature that purchases at the target using your default payment method. Review that setting carefully before enabling it.

Do all Google price tracking features work everywhere?

No. Google lists supported countries and says features may not appear on every device or Google surface. Chrome also has account, sync, and opt-in requirements.
