TradingView Snapshot Settings: Capture, Include Trades, and Share Charts
Learn TradingView snapshot settings, trade overlays, sharing options, chart layouts, troubleshooting, and an API alternative for automated captures.
TradingView snapshots capture the chart currently on screen as a static image. Open the chart’s camera control in the upper-right, choose the snapshot action, then save the image, copy it, copy its image link, or send it to X. TradingView says snapshot links do not expire.
Take a TradingView snapshot
- Open the chart and set the symbol, timeframe, indicators, drawings, and visible price area you want to show.
- Click the camera icon in the chart’s upper-right area to open the Chart snapshot menu.
- Choose the required output action: save the image to your computer, copy the image, copy its link, or send it directly to X.
- Open the saved file or copied result before sharing so you can confirm that the intended chart area and overlays are visible.
A snapshot is a picture of the current chart. It is not an interactive chart layout and does not give the recipient editing access to your workspace.
Control whether trades appear in the image
TradingView provides the setting Orders, executions and positions in screenshots. Turn it on when you want order markers, executions, and open positions included in an image made through TradingView’s Chart snapshot menu.
This checkbox has a narrow scope. TradingView documents it for chart snapshots created from that menu. It does not control ordinary operating-system screenshots, browser screenshots, or printing from the browser.
Before you capture
- Enable the trade-information setting if the audience needs to see orders, executions, or positions.
- Disable it when those details are private or would distract from the price action.
- Check the chart at the final zoom and scroll position; the snapshot reflects what is currently visible.
Snapshot sharing versus chart-layout sharing
| Question | Snapshot | Chart-layout sharing |
|---|---|---|
| What is shared? | A static image | A saved chart layout that can be viewed interactively |
| How is it started? | Chart camera and snapshot menu | Sharing controls in chart-layout settings |
| Does the viewer need an account? | The image or image link can be viewed as an image | Viewers need to be logged in to see the chart and indicators properly |
| Can the viewer edit your live chart? | No; it is only an image | The shared version is saved, and a recipient with the link can copy the layout |
| What changes later? | The captured pixels remain the same | The shared link shows the saved version; later author changes do not appear in copies |
Saved charts are private by default. Enable layout sharing only when you want others to open an interactive view of that layout. Use a snapshot when you need a fixed record for a report, message, issue, or social post.
Choose the right sharing method
Use a snapshot when
- You need a fixed image that cannot change as the chart evolves.
- The recipient does not need to inspect indicators or interact with the chart.
- You want to attach a file, paste an image, or share a snapshot link.
- You need trade markers included in the captured image.
Use chart-layout sharing when
- The recipient must inspect the chart interactively.
- You want them to view indicators and the saved layout.
- You accept that someone with the link can copy the layout.
Do not describe a snapshot link as permission to open or edit an interactive chart. The two sharing routes represent different things.
Reliable snapshot checklist
- Set the exact symbol and timeframe.
- Hide panels and drawings that should not appear.
- Choose whether orders, executions, and positions belong in the image.
- Set the visible date range and zoom.
- Open the camera menu rather than using a regular browser screenshot if you need TradingView’s snapshot sharing actions.
- Save or copy the result, then verify the output.
- Use the image link or downloaded file for static sharing; use layout sharing for an interactive view.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Orders or positions are missing | The trade-information setting is off, or the capture was not made through the Chart snapshot menu. | Enable Orders, executions and positions in screenshots and create the image from the chart camera menu. |
| A browser screenshot does not show trade markers | The TradingView setting does not control ordinary screenshots or browser printing. | Use TradingView’s Chart snapshot action when those overlays must be included. |
| The recipient sees an image instead of a chart | You shared a snapshot, which is intentionally static. | Share the chart layout instead if interactive viewing is required. |
| The shared layout does not show correctly | The viewer is not logged in. | Ask the viewer to sign in to TradingView, as required to see the chart and indicators properly. |
| Later edits are not visible to someone who copied the layout | The shared version is saved at the time of sharing. | Share the updated layout again. |
| A snapshot link appears unavailable | You may be using a different link or an access-controlled layout link. | Recreate the snapshot link from the camera menu. TradingView states that snapshots themselves do not expire. |
Automate chart images with ScreenshotNeo
TradingView’s built-in snapshot menu is best for a person capturing the chart in front of them. For scheduled pages, documentation, reports, or many URLs, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. It captures PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from one GET request.
Or skip the browser setup
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for all options. The basic request is:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.tradingview.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://www.tradingview.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://www.tradingview.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Before capture, ScreenshotNeo can accept cookie and consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be disabled. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
For chart pages that need consistent rendering, options include full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets or custom viewports, retina scale, custom CSS and JavaScript, click and wait actions, blocked ads or requests, custom headers and cookies, timezone and geolocation, caching with a chosen TTL, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, and a usage API. PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF outputs are supported.
The Free plan includes 1,000 shots each month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; every feature is available on every plan. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account to start.
Performance, reliability, and cost notes
- For a single manual chart, TradingView’s camera menu has no API setup and is the shortest path.
- For repeated captures, an API avoids keeping a browser open and lets you choose viewport, wait, blocking, caching, and output settings.
- Use caching when the same chart URL can be reused within a chosen TTL; cache hits are not billed by ScreenshotNeo.
- Inspect
X-Page-VerdictandX-Billedin automated jobs so failed loads and non-page results are handled explicitly. - Set a client timeout long enough for chart scripts and lazy content. The Python example uses 90 seconds.
- For many pages, use bulk capture or asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks instead of holding one request open per URL.
