Where to Find Web Capture in Microsoft Edge

Web Capture is now called Screenshot in Microsoft Edge. Find it from the three-dot menu, the page context menu, or Ctrl+Shift+S.

Web Capture is now called Screenshot in Microsoft Edge. Open Edge’s three-dot Settings and more menu and select Screenshot. You can also right-click the webpage and choose Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.

Microsoft’s policy documentation describes Screenshot as the renamed Web Capture feature. The tool captures webpage content, either the entire page or an area you select. Availability can vary by Edge version, device, market, and managed-browser policies.

Find Web Capture (now Screenshot) in Edge

  1. Open the webpage you want to capture in Microsoft Edge.
  2. Select the three-dot Settings and more button in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Screenshot.
  4. Choose the capture mode offered by your Edge version: capture the full webpage or select an area.
  5. Follow Edge’s prompts to copy, save, or otherwise use the capture.

Microsoft’s current feature guidance uses the name Screenshot; older help pages and searches may still call it Web Capture. Microsoft’s policy reference also lists the Settings and more menu, the page context menu, and the keyboard shortcut as access points. See the WebCaptureEnabled policy documentation.

Three ways to open the feature

1. Settings and more menu

Select the three dots in the upper-right corner, then choose Screenshot. This is the most discoverable route when you do not remember the shortcut.

2. Webpage context menu

Right-click inside the webpage and select Screenshot. The command may be easier to find when you are already working in the page and do not want to move to the browser toolbar.

3. Keyboard shortcut

Press Ctrl+Shift+S. If the shortcut does nothing, confirm that Edge has focus and that the feature is available in your build or organization policy.

What Edge Screenshot can capture

Mode Use it when Result
Full webpage You need the complete page, including content below the fold. Edge captures the webpage rather than only the visible viewport.
Selected area You need one article section, image, chart, or other region. You select the region to capture.

The exact controls and save or copy options can vary with the Edge version and device. If you need a repeatable, automated image or PDF for a URL, a browser menu is not an API; use an automation tool instead.

Screenshot versus Windows Snipping Tool

Edge Screenshot captures content from a webpage. Windows Snipping Tool captures the screen and supports freeform, rectangular, window, and full-screen snips. Windows opens Snipping Tool with Windows+Shift+S; that is different from Edge’s Ctrl+Shift+S shortcut.

  • Use Edge Screenshot when you want webpage content, including a full page or a selected page area.
  • Use Windows Snipping Tool when you need a screen region, application window, or desktop capture.

If Screenshot is missing

  1. Try the shortcut. Press Ctrl+Shift+S with the webpage focused.
  2. Try the context menu. Right-click the page and look for Screenshot.
  3. Update Edge. A different browser version may use different labels or expose different controls.
  4. Check the device and market. Microsoft notes that feature availability and behavior can vary by device type, market, and browser version.
  5. Check organization policy. On managed devices, the WebCaptureEnabled policy can control whether the feature is available. Ask your administrator if the menu and shortcut are both disabled.
  6. Check that you are using Edge’s shortcut. Ctrl+Shift+S is for Edge Screenshot; Windows+Shift+S opens Windows Snipping Tool.

Common problems and fixes

Problem Likely cause Fix
There is no Web Capture entry. The feature was renamed, is unavailable in the current build, or is disabled by policy. Look for Screenshot, try Ctrl+Shift+S, update Edge, and check WebCaptureEnabled.
The shortcut does nothing. Edge does not have focus, another application intercepts the shortcut, or policy disables the feature. Click the webpage, retry, then use the three-dot or right-click menu. On a managed device, contact the administrator.
You captured only what was visible. The selected-area mode was used instead of full-page capture. Open Screenshot again and choose the full webpage option when it is available.
You captured the desktop instead of the webpage. Windows Snipping Tool was opened with the Windows shortcut. Return to Edge and use Screenshot or Ctrl+Shift+S.
The result differs from the page you expected. Dynamic content, delayed images, login state, or responsive layout changed what was rendered. Wait for the page to finish loading, confirm the correct viewport and account state, and recapture.

Or skip the browser setup

For scripts, scheduled jobs, documentation pipelines, or AI agents, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the available parameters.

cURL

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Python

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Node.js

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and the response reports the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients call take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

Performance, reliability, and cost considerations

  • Browser capture: convenient for one-off, human-driven work, but it depends on the page finishing its client-side rendering and on your local Edge configuration.
  • Repeatability: use the same URL, account state, viewport, and timing conditions when comparing captures.
  • Managed environments: a policy change can remove the menu and shortcut even when the feature exists in Edge generally.
  • Automation cost: ScreenshotNeo bills only clean shots; failed loads, bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, and cache hits cost nothing. Cache behavior and other capture controls are configurable through its API.
