Where Does FireShot Save Screenshots in Chrome?

FireShot usually saves to Chrome’s Downloads location. Check for a FireShot subfolder, a custom FireShot destination, or a save dialog to find the exact file.

FireShot usually saves screenshots to Chrome’s configured Downloads folder. The free version uses the default Downloads location. Depending on FireShot’s save-location preference, the file may be inside a FireShot subfolder or directly in the Downloads folder. FireShot Pro can use a custom local or cloud folder, and a save dialog may let you choose a destination for a capture.

There is no single path that applies to every computer. Check Chrome’s Downloads setting first, then check FireShot’s save options and the destination shown when you save. FireShot’s current [onboarding page](https://getfireshot.com/installed-lite.php) lists the free version’s default Downloads folder and Pro’s custom-folder options. [Chrome Help](https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95759?hl=en-uk) explains how to inspect or change Chrome’s default download location.

Find the screenshot: start with Chrome Downloads

  1. In Chrome, open the three-dot menu and select Settings.
  2. Open Downloads. You can also enter chrome://settings/downloads in the address bar.
  3. Read the location shown beside Location. Select Change if you want to open or choose a different folder.
  4. Open that folder in your computer’s file manager. Search for the capture’s filename or sort by date modified to find the latest screenshot.
  5. If there is a FireShot folder inside Downloads, check it too. FireShot has offered a subfolder preference; when that preference is blank, FireShot support guidance says the parent Downloads folder is used.

Chrome’s setting is the fastest way to find the actual folder, especially if Downloads was moved to a different drive, Desktop, or synced location. With Chrome’s standard defaults, Google lists \Users\<username>\Downloads on Windows, /Users/<username>/Downloads on macOS, and /home/<username>/Downloads on Linux. Treat those as examples only: your configured location takes precedence.

Check FireShot’s save location and save dialog

FireShot’s available controls can vary by edition and version. Open FireShot’s menu or options and inspect the save-location and saving-process settings. Its current onboarding shows these choices:

FireShot setting or edition Where to look
Free version default Chrome’s configured Downloads folder
Downloads / FireShot A FireShot subfolder within Chrome’s Downloads folder
Pro custom location The selected local folder or cloud folder, which can override the usual Downloads location
Ask for a destination when saving The folder shown in FireShot’s save/export dialog for that capture
Save directly or hide the dialog The configured default destination; check FireShot’s saving-process options

FireShot Pro’s [manual](https://getfireshot.com/using.php) describes choosing whether FireShot asks for a destination each time or stores captures in one location. The manual is older, so the controls in your installed version are the final reference. If a dialog appears, note its folder before clicking Save; that explicit destination is more useful than assuming the Chrome default.

Why the exact path differs

  • Chrome’s Downloads folder was changed. Chrome can use any folder you choose, and Chrome profiles may have different settings.
  • FireShot has a subfolder enabled. The screenshot may be in Downloads/FireShot, not at the top level. The current onboarding shows both Downloads and Downloads / FireShot as save-location choices, so do not assume every installation uses the subfolder.
  • FireShot Pro uses a custom folder. A chosen local or cloud-synced folder can replace the default location.
  • The save dialog asked for a location. The destination selected for that capture may differ from the saved default.
  • Your operating system or device changes the path. Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and managed or synced devices can expose different folder names and locations. Use Chrome’s setting rather than relying on a path copied from another computer.

Make future captures easier to locate

  1. Choose one folder in Chrome Settings > Downloads, or configure the FireShot destination if your edition provides that option.
  2. Decide whether you want FireShot to ask where to save each capture or save automatically to a fixed location.
  3. If using a FireShot subfolder, keep it enabled and remember to search inside it. If you prefer the parent folder, clear or change that subfolder preference if the installed version offers it.
  4. Optionally enable Chrome’s Ask where to save each file before downloading setting. This is a Chrome download preference; it may not control every save action performed directly by an extension, so verify with one capture.
  5. Make a test capture and confirm the resulting path in the save dialog or file manager.

Troubleshooting: the screenshot is missing

What you see Likely cause What to do
Nothing in the usual Downloads folder Chrome’s download folder was changed, or FireShot has a custom destination Check chrome://settings/downloads, then inspect FireShot’s save-location option.
Downloads has no screenshot, but a FireShot folder exists The subfolder preference routes captures into it Open the subfolder and search by filename or modification date.
A save dialog appeared, but the file is elsewhere A different folder was selected for that capture Repeat a capture and inspect the destination shown in the dialog; choose the preferred folder.
The screenshot is in a cloud drive or synced folder FireShot Pro or Chrome is configured to use that location Check the selected destination and allow the sync client time to show the file locally.
You cannot find it by searching the expected filename The capture may have a generated or customized name, or may have been saved as PDF or another format Search recently modified files in the likely destination and include common image formats and PDF in your search.
The expected FireShot setting is absent The installed FireShot edition or version may expose different controls Use the current options and save/export dialog. FireShot’s online manual covers Pro behavior but dates from 2016.

Chrome’s Downloads page can also show recent downloaded files. If FireShot saved directly through its own workflow, the browser’s download list may not be the clearest record of the destination; check FireShot’s save dialog and the filesystem location instead.

Or skip the browser setup

If your goal is to capture a website from code rather than find a FireShot file, [ScreenshotNeo](https://screenshotneo.com) can return a screenshot from one API request. See the [API docs](https://screenshotneo.com/docs/) for options such as PNG, JPEG or WebP output, PDF, full-page capture, viewport and device settings, and custom CSS or JavaScript.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
    timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
import { writeFile } from 'node:fs/promises';

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await writeFile('shot.webp', Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer()));

FAQ

Does FireShot always save into a folder named FireShot?

No. The current FireShot onboarding shows both Downloads and Downloads / FireShot choices. Check the installed preference to see which applies.

Will changing Chrome’s Downloads folder move screenshots already saved?

Changing the setting affects the destination for future saves. It does not itself move files that are already in another folder.

Can I use the same save path on every computer?

Not necessarily. Paths and available folders depend on the operating system, Chrome configuration, FireShot edition, and any custom or synced location.

Does the FireShot save-location answer apply to ChromeOS?

The general method is to inspect Chrome’s Downloads setting and FireShot’s destination. The exact location can differ on ChromeOS, especially on managed devices, so rely on the location shown on that device.
