How to Take a Screenshot of a Whole Web Page in Safari

Capture an entire Safari webpage on iPhone, save it as an image or PDF, and understand what changes on Mac.

On iPhone, Safari can capture an entire webpage in one full-page screenshot. Open the page, take a normal screenshot, tap the preview, choose Full Page, then save the result as an image or PDF. Apple documents this for webpages that extend beyond the iPhone screen.

Take a full-page Safari screenshot on iPhone

  1. Open the webpage in Safari.
  2. Take a screenshot. On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On an iPhone with a Home button, quickly press and release the side button and Home button together.
  3. Tap the screenshot preview that appears, if it does not open automatically.
  4. At the top of the editor, select Full Page.
  5. Review the tall preview. Use the crop controls if you only need part of the page.
  6. Save the capture as an image in Photos, or use the PDF save option to store it in Files.

Apple’s iPhone screenshot guide describes Full Page as a way to capture content longer than the screen, including an entire webpage in Safari.

Image or PDF?

Choose Best for Where it goes
Image Sharing a visual, adding it to Photos, or using it in a design Photos
PDF Keeping a document, attaching it to a ticket, or filing it with other documents Files or another destination in the share sheet

The Full Page editor is the screenshot workflow. It is separate from Safari’s webpage-to-PDF Markup workflow.

Save a Safari webpage as an annotated PDF

If you need notes, highlights, or drawings rather than a screenshot image, use Safari’s document flow:

  1. Open the page in Safari and tap the Page Menu or Share button.
  2. Tap Markup.
  3. Add annotations.
  4. Tap Done, choose Save File To, name the file, and save it.

See Apple’s instructions for annotating and saving a webpage as a PDF.

What changes on iPad?

The same Full Page concept is available for content longer than the display. Open the page in Safari, take a screenshot with the device buttons, open the preview, choose Full Page, and save the image or PDF.

Safari on Mac: screenshot versus whole-page capture

macOS’s documented screenshot controls capture the entire screen, a window, or a selected portion. They do not describe an iPhone-style Full Page button for turning a long, scrolling Safari page into one tall screenshot.

  • Entire screen: press Shift-Command-3.
  • Screenshot controls: press Shift-Command-5 and choose a screen, window, or selected area.

Apple’s Mac screenshot guide lists these capture modes. A screen capture includes browser chrome and anything else visible on the display.

Save the entire webpage on Mac

When you need the page’s content rather than a tall image, Safari can save it as a web archive or page source:

  1. Open the page in Safari.
  2. Choose File > Save As.
  3. Choose Web Archive or Page Source.

A web archive stores graphics and keeps links working while their destination pages remain available. Page Source stores only the HTML source. Some webpages can prevent Safari from saving items shown on the page. See Apple’s Safari for Mac saving guide.

Common problems and fixes

Problem Likely cause Fix
Full Page is missing The screenshot was taken outside Safari, or the page does not expose scrollable content to the screenshot editor. Take the screenshot while the webpage is open in Safari, then open the screenshot preview. If the option still does not appear, try a normal page or use the PDF Markup workflow.
The capture stops before the footer The page loads content only after scrolling or uses an internal scroll container. Scroll through the page once so deferred content loads, then take the screenshot again. Content inside a separate scrollable panel may not be included.
Images are blank or incomplete Images are lazy-loaded, blocked, or still loading. Wait for the page to finish loading, scroll through the page, and repeat the capture. Access-restricted content may not render.
The PDF is too large to share A long page contains many high-resolution images. Crop to the needed range, or save an image and resize it before sharing.
Mac capture includes tabs and toolbars macOS screen capture records the visible window or screen. Enter full-screen mode, select only the Safari window or page area, or save the webpage as a web archive instead.

Or skip the browser setup

For repeatable captures, a screenshot API avoids manual device steps. ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its full-page mode loads lazy images, and you can also select an element, set a device or viewport, use dark mode, wait for a selector, delay, or network idle, and provide custom CSS or JavaScript.

Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients call take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

  • Long pages with deferred images can take longer to render and produce larger files.
  • Use PDF when text search and document storage matter; use an image when visual fidelity and easy sharing matter.
  • For automation, cache a stable URL when appropriate, wait for the page’s content to settle, and inspect the X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers in ScreenshotNeo responses.

FAQ

Can I capture a whole Safari page directly from the Share menu?

For a screenshot, use the normal screenshot button combination and choose Full Page in the screenshot editor. The Share menu’s Markup route creates an annotated PDF.

Does Full Page create a PNG in Photos?

Apple’s Full Page workflow lets you save the capture as an image or as a PDF to Files. The exact save controls can vary by operating-system version.

Can Safari on Mac make one tall webpage screenshot?

Apple documents Mac screen, window, and selected-area screenshots, plus webpage saving as Web Archive or Page Source. It does not document an iPhone-style Full Page screenshot control for Safari on Mac.

Will interactive content always appear?

No. Dynamic, lazy-loaded, access-restricted, or independently scrolling content can render differently. Let the page load and scroll through it before capturing, and verify the result.
