How to Add Social Preview Images to a Wix Blog in India
Set a post-specific social preview image in Wix, choose the right sharing metadata, and refresh cached previews when they look outdated.
To add a social preview image to a Wix Blog post, open the post in your Wix dashboard, go to Settings, add or select an image in the cover image box, and publish the post. Wix says the cover image is used when the post is shared on social media. If you want it to appear only in social shares and not in blog feeds, turn off Display Cover Image. Then check the post’s SEO tab and its Social Share settings to set or verify the image, title, and description.
The documented Wix workflow does not specify a separate India-only editor path or image rule. These steps apply to a Wix Blog post regardless of location.
Steps: Add an image to one Wix Blog post
- In your Wix dashboard, click Blog and open the post you want to edit. You can also create a post first.
- Open Settings in the post toolbar.
- In the image box, add or update the display cover image. Upload an image from your computer or choose one that is already available, then finish the selection or upload flow.
- Set Display Cover Image according to how you want the image used. When enabled, Wix says the image appears in the post feed, custom feed, recent posts feed, and social shares. When disabled, it appears only when the post is shared on social media.
- Open the post’s SEO tab and review Social Share. Set a custom share image, title, and description if needed. Review X card settings separately if you want to control how the post is presented on X.
- Publish the post. Share its public URL to check the result, then use the relevant platform’s preview inspection tool if the displayed information is stale.
Cover image, social metadata, and site-wide fallback
Wix provides several related image controls. Use the post-level settings first when one particular article needs a specific preview.
| Setting | Scope | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Post cover image | One blog post | Choose the image associated with that post. The Display Cover Image toggle controls whether it also appears in feeds or only in social shares. |
| SEO > Social Share image | One blog post | Set or verify the image, title, and description used for social sharing. This is the place to check if the preview should differ from the cover image. |
| General social image | Site-wide default | Set a consistent fallback for pages without their own og:image. In Wix, find it under Website Settings > Site and Domain > Website settings > General social image. |
If a post has no cover image, Wix says it uses the first image in the post. If the post has no image, video, or cover image, Wix says it uses the image from the social tab in the dashboard. The site-wide social image is a general fallback; it does not replace checking the post-level cover and Social Share settings when you want a specific image for that post.
Choose and prepare the preview image
Wix recommends an Open Graph image of 1200 × 630 pixels (about 1.91:1) and lists 8 MB as the maximum size. Wix recommends at least 600 × 315 pixels to avoid the small-image treatment in a link preview. For WhatsApp previews, Wix says the image must be under 300 KB. Treat these as Wix’s guidance; social platforms choose and render previews according to their own criteria.
- Use a wide image with the important subject near the center so it remains recognizable when a platform crops it.
- Keep the file within Wix’s stated size limit. If you are targeting WhatsApp, compress it below Wix’s stated 300 KB threshold.
- Use an image that represents the individual post. A site-wide brand image is better suited to the general fallback.
- After upload, confirm that the intended image appears in the post’s Social Share settings, especially if you selected a cover image and a separate share image.
Refresh a preview that still shows the old image
Changing the image in Wix does not guarantee that every social network will immediately show it. Wix notes that each channel uses its own criteria to select the title, description, and image, and a platform may retain previously fetched information.
- Confirm the post is published and the public URL is correct.
- Reopen the post’s SEO > Social Share settings and check the image, title, and description. Also check the cover image and the Display Cover Image toggle.
- Use the platform’s own preview debugger or inspector to fetch the URL again. Wix specifically recommends LinkedIn Post Inspector for LinkedIn and describes refresh steps for Facebook and LinkedIn.
- Check the preview again after the platform re-fetches the page. Wix says updated LinkedIn information may take up to a week to appear in shares.
Wix does not guarantee that a social network will display the configured metadata exactly as entered. If one network still shows an old image while another has updated, inspect the URL with that network’s tool and allow for its cache and refresh behavior.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot of a Wix post page for documentation or review, ScreenshotNeo can capture it with one GET request. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Replace the example URL with your published Wix post URL. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details. Cookie and consent banners are accepted and removed before capture, along with known newsletter popups and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Troubleshooting
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The post shows the wrong image in a share preview | The cover image or Social Share image is not the one you intended, or the platform selected another available image. | Check both the post’s cover image and SEO > Social Share. Re-fetch the URL in the platform’s preview tool. |
| The image appears in feeds when you only wanted social sharing | Display Cover Image is enabled. | Turn off that toggle in the post’s Settings. Wix says a disabled cover image is used only when sharing on social media. |
| The image is missing and another image appears instead | There may be no cover image; Wix can use the first image in the post, then the dashboard social image if the post has no image, video, or cover image. | Add a post-specific cover image and review Social Share settings. Set a site-wide general social image for pages that need a fallback. |
| The old preview persists after publishing | The social network may have cached earlier page metadata. | Use that network’s debugger or inspector to fetch the URL again. LinkedIn updates can take up to a week according to Wix. |
| The preview image looks small or is rejected | The image may be below Wix’s recommended dimensions, exceed its stated file-size guidance, or be unsuitable for a platform’s selection rules. | Use Wix’s recommended 1200 × 630 image, keep it below 8 MB, and for WhatsApp keep it under 300 KB. Recheck Social Share settings and refresh the preview. |
Frequently asked questions
Does the India location change the Wix steps?
The reviewed Wix guidance documents no India-specific workflow. Use the post settings and image guidance above.
Can I use one image in feeds and another in social previews?
The cover image has a feed display toggle, while the Social Share settings expose a custom sharing image. Review both controls on the post to get the intended result.
Will every platform show my chosen title, description, and image?
No. Wix says social channels use their own criteria, so the final preview can vary by platform.
