How to Capture a Web Page on an HP Laptop
Learn the fastest HP laptop screenshot shortcuts, how to capture a full scrolling webpage, where files save, and how to fix common problems.
On an HP laptop running Windows, press Windows + Shift + S to capture a selected area, or press Windows + Print Screen to save the entire visible screen automatically. To capture the complete page below the fold, use Microsoft Edge’s Screenshot/Web Capture → Capture full page.
Choose the right capture method
| What you need | Use | Output |
|---|---|---|
| A selected rectangle | Windows + Shift + S → Rectangle | Selection opens in Snipping Tool for copying or saving |
| An irregular shape | Windows + Shift + S → Freeform | Hand-drawn selection |
| The browser window | Windows + Shift + S → Window | Selected app window |
| Everything currently visible | Print Screen or Snipping Tool → Full screen | Clipboard image or editable Snipping Tool capture |
| A full screen saved immediately | Windows + Print Screen | File in Pictures → Screenshots |
| The entire scrolling webpage | Edge Screenshot/Web Capture → Capture full page | One tall image containing content below the screen |
Capture part of a webpage with Snipping Tool
- Open the webpage and display the content you want.
- Press Windows + Shift + S. The screen dims and the Snipping Tool toolbar appears.
- Choose Rectangle, Freeform, Window, or Full screen.
- Select the area. The result is copied and opens in Snipping Tool.
- Press Ctrl + C to copy it, or Ctrl + S to save it. You can also annotate, share, or mark up the capture.
Snipping Tool also supports a delay of one to five seconds. Use the delay when a menu, tooltip, or hover state must be visible before the capture starts.
Save the entire visible screen
Automatic file save
Press Windows + Print Screen. Windows flashes the display and saves a full-screen image, normally under Pictures > Screenshots.
Copy to the clipboard
Press Print Screen (also labelled PrtSc or PrtScn). Microsoft documents this as a clipboard action. Open Paint, Word, an image editor, or another image-capable app and press Ctrl + V, then save the pasted image.
Capture a complete scrolling webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page in Microsoft Edge.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + S, or open Edge’s menu and choose Screenshot/Web Capture.
- Select Capture full page.
- Review the tall result. Use Edge’s markup tools if required.
- Copy it to the clipboard or save it as an image.
This is the built-in choice for content that extends below the display. A normal Print Screen capture only contains the pixels currently visible.
Where your screenshot went
- Windows + Print Screen: usually Pictures > Screenshots.
- Print Screen: clipboard only until you paste and save it.
- Windows + Shift + S: copied to the clipboard and available in Snipping Tool; save with Ctrl + S.
- Edge Capture full page: save or copy the result from the preview.
HP keyboard and Windows differences
HP keyboards may label the key PrtSc, PrtScn, or Print Screen. Some models place it behind an Fn layer. There is no single Fn combination for every HP model, so check the key legend or your model manual if the shortcuts do not respond. The Windows capture tools themselves work the same way across supported HP laptops.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need repeatable captures, automation, or a clean image without browser controls, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request. Before capture it accepts cookie/consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing result.
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for all options.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Print Screen appears to do nothing | It copied the image to the clipboard | Paste with Ctrl + V into Paint or another image app, then save |
| Windows + Print Screen does not save | Wrong key label, Fn layer, or shortcut not reaching Windows | Try Fn with the printed-screen key, verify the key legend, or use Windows + Shift + S |
| The screenshot includes only the visible area | Print Screen captures the current display | Use Edge’s Capture full page for a scrolling webpage |
| A menu closes before capture | The shortcut changed focus or the menu needs time to open | Use Snipping Tool’s one-to-five-second delay |
| Full-page Edge capture is unavailable | The command may be under Screenshot/Web Capture or Edge may need updating | Open Edge’s menu, search for Screenshot/Web Capture, and choose Capture full page |
| The saved image is hard to read | The page is taller than practical for one bitmap | Capture a selected section, save several sections, or export a PDF with an automated capture service |
Performance, reliability, and file-size tips
- Use a visible-area capture for quick notes; it is immediate and produces a small file.
- Full-page captures take longer on pages with lazy-loaded images, animations, or embedded media. Wait until the page finishes loading before starting.
- For a long page, a PNG preserves text and sharp edges but can be large. JPEG is smaller for photographs; WebP often balances size and quality.
- Keep the browser window at the viewport size you want. Responsive pages can change layout when the window width changes.
- For repeat jobs, record the URL, viewport, capture scope, and file format so results are consistent.
