How to Capture a Website Screenshot with Tamil Text on Windows

Capture visible Tamil text with Snipping Tool, or save a full webpage with Edge Screenshot. Learn how to check legibility and troubleshoot capture issues.

First check that the Tamil text is visible and legible in your browser. To capture the portion on screen, press Windows key + Shift + S and select it with Snipping Tool. To capture a long page that extends below the screen, use Microsoft Edge’s Screenshot command and choose its full-page capture option. Save the image from the capture tool.

A screenshot records what the browser displays; it does not repair missing or malformed Tamil glyphs. If the characters are already missing on the page, troubleshoot the page or browser rendering before capturing.

Choose the right capture method

What you need Use Why
A paragraph or visible part of a page Snipping Tool with Windows + Shift + S Select just the on-screen area you want.
A whole browser window or display Snipping Tool window or full-screen mode These capture modes include the full window or display.
A webpage longer than the screen Edge Screenshot, full-page option It can include page content that would otherwise require scrolling.
A menu that disappears quickly Snipping Tool delay Set a 1–5 second delay, arrange the menu, then capture.

Capture visible Tamil text with Snipping Tool

  1. Open the webpage in your browser and scroll until the Tamil text you need is visible.
  2. Check that the characters appear correctly at the size you intend to share. If they are clipped or too small, adjust the browser zoom or page position before capturing.
  3. Press Windows key + Shift + S. The Snipping Tool capture overlay opens.
  4. Choose a rectangular snip, window snip, or full-screen snip as appropriate. For a paragraph, drag around the text and enough surrounding page to make its context clear.
  5. Select the notification or open Snipping Tool to review the capture. Edit or annotate if needed, then use Save as to choose a filename and location.

Windows may automatically save a captured snip in the Screenshots folder. Use Save as when you want to control the destination and filename. For a menu or other temporary state, set the delay in Snipping Tool to 1–5 seconds before starting the capture.

If your keyboard has no PrtScn key, Windows documents Fn + Windows logo key + Space Bar as an alternate screenshot shortcut. Windows logo key + PrtScn may also work, depending on the device. Those shortcuts capture the screen; use Snipping Tool when you need to select a particular region.

Capture a full webpage in Microsoft Edge

  1. Open the page in Edge and wait for the Tamil content you need to appear.
  2. Open Screenshot from the right-click menu or Edge settings, or press Ctrl + Shift + S.
  3. Choose the full-page capture option to include content below the current viewport. Use the selection option if you only need part of the page.
  4. Review the capture in the overlay, then copy or save it. Markup is available before copying or saving.

Edge’s Screenshot feature can vary by device, market, and browser version. If the command or full-page option is missing, check the current Edge interface for your installation. Use Snipping Tool to capture the content currently visible on screen.

Type Tamil into a page before capturing (optional)

You do not need to install a Tamil keyboard layout just to screenshot Tamil text that is already on a webpage. If you need to enter Tamil into a form or editor first, Windows includes Tamil input support, and adding it does not require changing your display language. Microsoft Learn’s Tamil IME instructions cover the input methods and keyboard layouts.

  1. Open Settings > Time & language > Language & region.
  2. Choose Add a language, find Tamil, and install it.
  3. Switch between installed layouts with Windows key + Spacebar.

Tamil 99 is installed by default when Tamil is added. Tamil Phonetic is another layout you can add in Tamil’s language options. With the phonetic layout, type a transliteration using English keys and choose a suggestion; Microsoft’s example enters “தோட்டம்” (garden) by typing thottam. With Tamil 99, type according to that keyboard layout. This adds a way to input Tamil; it does not fix a webpage’s font or rendering.

Save and inspect the image

  • Open the saved image and inspect it at normal size. Confirm that Tamil characters are legible and the intended page area is present.
  • Check the top and bottom edges for clipped lines, and confirm that the capture includes enough context for someone else to understand the text.
  • For long pages, review the full-page result for missing sections or unexpected breaks before sharing.
  • Choose a descriptive filename and a location you can find later. Snipping Tool also supports editing and annotation.

If you use Snipping Tool’s legacy browser capture and save it as an HTML file, its options include whether to show the page URL below the snip. That setting applies to that HTML save option; it is not a general setting for ordinary image screenshots.

Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause What to do
Tamil appears as empty boxes, missing marks, or malformed characters in the browser. The screenshot captures the browser’s current rendering; the capture shortcut does not repair glyphs or site-specific display problems. Confirm the text is legible in the browser before capturing. Try the page’s normal reload or browser troubleshooting steps, and check the result again. The cited Windows guidance explains Tamil input and capture, not a universal font or rendering repair.
The screenshot contains only the visible part of a long page. A screen snip captures the area currently on screen. Use Edge Screenshot’s full-page option when available. If it is unavailable, capture visible sections separately with Snipping Tool.
Ctrl + Shift + S does not open Edge Screenshot. The command may be unavailable in that device, market, or browser version, or the shortcut may be handled differently. Look for Screenshot in Edge’s right-click menu or settings. If it is absent, use Snipping Tool for visible content.
The capture misses a menu or transient content. The content closed before the selection was made. Set Snipping Tool’s delay to 1–5 seconds, open or arrange the menu during the countdown, then capture.
You cannot find the saved screenshot. The tool may have used its default Screenshots folder or a different chosen location. Reopen the capture in Snipping Tool and use Save as to choose a known folder and filename. Windows identifies Pictures > Screenshots as a screenshot location.
Your keyboard has no PrtScn key. Some keyboards omit that key or use a function-layer shortcut. Use Windows + Shift + S for Snipping Tool, or try Fn + Windows logo key + Space Bar as documented for devices without PrtScn.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need a reusable screenshot workflow or want to capture a page without setting up a local browser capture, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns an image or PDF; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and details.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, and failed loads are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status. Cache hits are also not billed. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools for screenshots, page information, and PDF capture. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Performance, reliability, and cost

Windows capture tools save what is displayed locally, so this method does not require a screenshot API plan. For a long page, full-page capture can be more convenient than stitching multiple visible-area captures, but inspect the result for omissions or breaks. If you capture separate sections, keep their order and overlap them slightly so no lines are lost.

For automated captures, ScreenshotNeo offers caching with a TTL you choose, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, and bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call. It bills only clean shots; bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Plans are Free: 1,000 shots/month; Starter: $5 for 3,000; Growth: $15 for 15,000; Pro: $39 for 60,000; Scale: $99 for 250,000; Business: $249 for 1,000,000. Yearly billing gives two months free, and every feature is on every plan. See ScreenshotNeo for the product and its documentation for configuration.

Frequently asked questions

Does adding Tamil to Windows change the display language?

No. Microsoft’s Tamil input documentation says using the IME does not require changing the current Windows display language.

Can Snipping Tool capture a whole long webpage?

A screen snip captures visible content. Use Edge Screenshot’s full-page option for content below the viewport when that feature is available.

Will a screenshot fix Tamil characters that appear incorrectly?

No. It records the rendered page. First resolve the display problem or capture a page where the Tamil is already legible.

Where does Windows save screenshots?

The save location depends on the capture path and options. Snipping Tool may automatically save to Screenshots; use Save as to choose a specific folder. Windows documents Pictures > Screenshots as a screenshot location.
