How to Capture a Website Screenshot on Windows 10 with Edge

Capture a visible part of a website in Edge with Windows + Shift + S, save the full screen with Windows + PrtScn, or print the page from Edge.

To capture the part of a website you can see in Microsoft Edge on Windows 10, press Windows logo key + Shift + S, then select the area around the page. The capture opens in Snipping Tool, where you can annotate, crop, save, or share it. For a full-screen image saved directly to a file, use Windows logo key + PrtScn. For a page-style document, use Edge’s print command with Ctrl + P.

These options capture different things: a selected region, the full screen, or a printout. A normal snip does not stitch the entire scrollable webpage into one long image.

1. Capture a visible part of a website with Snipping Tool

  1. Open the website in Edge and arrange the page so the content you want is visible. Close or move private windows and notifications that should not appear.
  2. Press Windows logo key + Shift + S. The screen dims and the capture overlay appears.
  3. Select the region containing the website content. Avoid including unrelated desktop or browser content if you plan to share the image.
  4. Open the Snipping Tool notification or app to review the capture. You can annotate or crop it, then save or share it. The capture is also copied to the clipboard, so you can paste it into an app that accepts images.

Microsoft describes Snipping Tool as a way to capture all or part of the PC screen. The shortcut and capture workflow are documented for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft’s Snipping Tool guide

2. Save an image of the full screen

If you want an image file of everything visible on the monitor rather than a selected rectangle, press Windows logo key + PrtScn. Look in Pictures\Screenshots for the saved screenshot. This captures the screen, including content outside Edge, so review the image before sharing it. Microsoft documents the shortcut and save location.

Some keyboards do not have a dedicated PrtScn key. Microsoft notes that Fn + Windows logo key + Space Bar may take a screenshot on such devices. Keyboard behavior can vary by device; check the computer or keyboard documentation if that combination does not work.

3. Print the webpage instead of capturing pixels

If you need a page-style record that can be printed or saved through a print workflow, use Edge’s print command. Press Ctrl + P to open printing, or Ctrl + Shift + P to open the system print dialog. Printing produces document output rather than a screenshot of the visible screen. See Microsoft Edge’s keyboard shortcuts.

4. Choose the right capture for the job

Need Use What it captures
A portion of the website Windows + Shift + S A selected screen region, which you can review and save in Snipping Tool.
An image file of everything currently on screen Windows + PrtScn The full screen, saved in Pictures\Screenshots.
A page-style printout or document Edge: Ctrl + P Print output from the webpage, not a pixel-for-pixel screen capture.
The entire scrollable webpage as one tall image Use a full-page capture workflow A standard screen snip only captures what is visible; it does not capture below the fold as one image.

The official Edge shortcut reference covers printing, while Microsoft’s Snipping Tool and Windows shortcut guides cover screen capture. They do not establish a dedicated Edge full-page screenshot command for this Windows 10 workflow. Do not assume a regular snip includes the rest of a long page. Windows shortcuts

5. Review and share the screenshot safely

  1. Check the saved image at full size before sending it.
  2. Crop browser tabs, bookmarks, desktop content, or other areas that are not relevant.
  3. Look for private information such as account names, email addresses, notifications, or content in other windows.
  4. Use an annotation tool if a highlight or pointer will make the relevant page area easier to understand.

6. Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause What to do
Windows + Shift + S does nothing The shortcut may not have registered, or the capture overlay may be unavailable. Press the keys together again. Open Snipping Tool from the Start menu and start a capture there. If needed, check Windows settings and updates for Snipping Tool.
The screenshot was captured but is hard to find Windows + Shift + S copies a snip for review; it is not the same as the full-screen shortcut that saves directly to Pictures\Screenshots. Open the Snipping Tool notification or app, then save the image. For a direct full-screen file, use Windows + PrtScn.
PrtScn is missing or the shortcut fails Some compact keyboards place Print Screen behind an Fn layer, and behavior varies. Try Fn + Windows logo key + Space Bar, or use Windows + Shift + S. Check the device’s keyboard documentation.
The result does not include the whole webpage A screen snip captures visible pixels, not the full scrollable document. Scroll and take additional snips if separate sections are sufficient, or use Edge printing for a document-style output. If one long image is required, use a full-page capture tool.
The screenshot contains other windows or private details The selected region or full-screen capture included more than the website. Crop the image in Snipping Tool or retake it after arranging the page and closing private content.
The printout looks different from the browser screen Print output is formatted for a page and is not a screenshot of displayed pixels. Use a screen capture when visual fidelity to the visible screen matters; use print when you need document output.

7. Performance, reliability, and format notes

For a single visible area, Snipping Tool is the shortest workflow because it uses the screen already rendered by Edge; it does not need to reload the website. A screen capture reflects the current display, so wait for the part you need to finish loading and scroll it into view before taking the snip. Animated content, video, changing banners, or delayed images may appear at whichever state was visible at capture time.

For repeatable captures or many URLs, a desktop snip requires manual positioning and saving for each capture. A screenshot API can automate browser rendering and return an image or PDF. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media; its options include PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF output. Details and request options are in the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

There is no special hardware or paid Windows add-on required for the built-in shortcuts described here. Printing may depend on the selected printer or PDF destination. API usage has a separate plan cost; ScreenshotNeo offers 1,000 shots per month free with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need repeatable website captures, ScreenshotNeo takes a screenshot with one GET request. For example, this cURL command saves a WebP capture:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the API documentation for the access key and available options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie banners and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools to take screenshots, inspect page info, and capture PDFs. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

FAQ

Where does Windows save a screenshot taken with Windows + Shift + S?

The shortcut opens the snipping overlay and copies the capture for use in Snipping Tool or another app. Review it in Snipping Tool and save it where you want.

Does Windows + PrtScn capture only Edge?

No. It captures the full screen, so other visible apps and desktop content may be included.

Can I use Snipping Tool’s newer AI features on Windows 10?

Do not assume so. Microsoft labels features such as Perfect Screenshot and color picker as Windows 11 AI PC or Copilot+ PC features; they are not Windows 10 instructions. See the current Snipping Tool documentation.

Should I print or take a screenshot?

Take a screenshot when you need an image of what is visible on screen. Print when you need page-oriented document output.
