How to screenshot an entire webpage in Edge

Open the page in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S (Windows) or use Settings and more (…) > Screenshot (previously called Web Capture). Choose Capture full page, review the result, and save it. Microsoft documents this as Edge’s built-in full-webpage screenshot workflow. Microsoft’s Edge instructions describe the menu and shortcut. [c001]

Step-by-step: capture the full page

  1. Open the webpage in Edge and wait for the content you need to appear.
  2. Open Settings and more (…) > Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
  3. Select Capture full page. This captures the webpage beyond the visible viewport.
  4. Review the captured image. Save it to your device using the save control.

Edge’s capture tool can also draw on, highlight, share, or copy a capture. Those controls are useful for annotating a result before you save or send it. [c001]

Capture only part of the page

Choose Capture area when you need a selected region instead of the complete document. Drag over the portion you want, then copy or mark it up before saving. This is different from full-page capture because the result is limited to the area you select. [c001]

Screenshot, Web Capture, and the keyboard shortcut

Microsoft’s current enterprise documentation calls the feature Screenshot and says it was previously named Web Capture. The option can appear in the context menu, the Settings and more menu, and through Ctrl+Shift+S when the relevant policy is enabled or unconfigured. [c002]

Microsoft’s policy documentation lists support for Edge on Windows and macOS from version 87 onward. It lists Android and iOS as unsupported for this policy feature; that statement concerns the documented enterprise policy feature, so mobile Edge should not be assumed to provide the same workflow. [c002]

When full-page capture is the right output

Goal Use Result
Save the entire scrolling webpage as one image Edge Screenshot > Capture full page A tall image of the webpage
Copy or annotate one region Capture area A selected image region, with copy and markup controls
Record what is visible on your monitor Windows Snipping Tool Freeform area, rectangle, window, or full-screen capture
Create a paginated document Print (Ctrl+P on Windows, Command+P on macOS) A print-oriented document or PDF
Collect research in OneNote OneNote Web Clipper Full Page or Region image, or Article content saved to a notebook

Snipping Tool’s full-screen mode captures the display, not the complete webpage below the viewport. Printing is usually better when page breaks and pagination matter. OneNote Web Clipper is an optional research workflow rather than a requirement for taking a screenshot. [c003][c004][c005]

What to do when Screenshot is missing

Check the menu and shortcut

  • Look under Settings and more (…) for Screenshot or Web Capture.
  • Try Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows. On macOS, open the menu because Microsoft’s documented shortcut is the Windows shortcut.
  • Update Edge if the browser is substantially older than the documented version range.

Managed computers and policy

On an organization-managed Windows or Mac installation, an administrator can disable the feature with the WebCaptureEnabled policy. Microsoft says that policy controls whether Screenshot is available from the context menu, Settings and more menu, and shortcut. If the option is absent on a managed device, ask the administrator whether the policy is disabled; do not change administrative settings unless you administer the device. [c002]

Page-specific limitations

Some pages change while they are being captured, require a login, or load content only after interaction. Wait for the page to settle, scroll through important sections once, and then run Capture full page again. If you need a stable archival document with page breaks, use Print instead.

Quality and reliability checklist

  • Confirm the address and page state before capturing; a logged-out or partially loaded page produces a different result.
  • Allow lazy-loaded sections, images, and fonts time to appear.
  • Close transient menus, selection handles, and browser UI that you do not want in the image.
  • Review the complete result before sharing, especially on very long pages.
  • Use print or PDF when readers need selectable text, page numbers, or predictable paper-sized pages.

Edge’s built-in workflow avoids browser extensions, but the final image still reflects the page as rendered in that browser session. Dynamic content, consent dialogs, and responsive layouts can change the capture.

Or skip the browser setup

For automated screenshots, use ScreenshotNeo, a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. It can capture a full page (including lazy-loaded images), a CSS-selected element, a chosen viewport or device preset, dark mode, retina scale, and many other options. Cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed.

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for all parameters and response details.

ScreenshotNeo also supports custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, selector waits, delays, network-idle waits, hidden selectors, blocked ads or trackers, custom headers and cookies, user agents, authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, chosen cache TTLs, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. Its parameter names are compatible with those used by many screenshot APIs, which can simplify migration.

An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. Plans include 1,000 screenshots per month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

Performance, reliability, and cost notes

  • Manual capture: Edge is convenient for occasional, human-reviewed images and requires no API key or integration.
  • Automation: An API is a better fit for scheduled jobs, many URLs, repeatable viewport settings, and server-side pipelines.
  • Dynamic pages: Configure an explicit delay, selector wait, or network-idle wait when content is asynchronous.
  • Repeat requests: ScreenshotNeo lets you choose a cache TTL. Cache hits are not billed.
  • Failures: Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, and failed loads are not billed by ScreenshotNeo; inspect X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed in responses.
  • Documents: Use PDF capture when a paginated file is more useful than one very tall raster image.

Troubleshooting common errors

Symptom Likely cause Fix
No Screenshot/Web Capture command Managed policy disabled it, or the browser is outdated Check for the alternate name, update Edge, or ask the administrator about WebCaptureEnabled.
Only the visible screen is saved Windows Snipping Tool or a screen shortcut was used Use Edge Screenshot and select Capture full page.
Images are missing Lazy loading or network activity had not finished Wait, scroll through the page, and capture again; for automation use a selector, delay, or network-idle wait.
Output is split into pages Print workflow was used Return to Screenshot > Capture full page for one tall image, or keep Print when pagination is desired.
API response is an error Invalid key, URL, blocked target, or request timeout Verify YOUR_API_KEY and URL encoding, inspect the HTTP status and X-Page-Verdict, then adjust waits or target access.

FAQ

Does Edge capture content below the fold?

Yes. Choose Capture full page; it is designed for the entire webpage rather than only the visible viewport. [c001]

Can I capture just a rectangle?

Yes. Choose Capture area, select the region, then copy, annotate, or save it. [c001]

Is a full-page screenshot the same as a PDF?

No. A screenshot is one image of the rendered webpage. A PDF is a paginated print-style document and is usually preferable for printing or text-focused distribution.

Why does my work computer not show the feature?

An administrator may have disabled Screenshot with the WebCaptureEnabled policy. Ask your administrator to confirm the policy state. [c002]

Can I automate the same job?

Yes. Use a screenshot API such as ScreenshotNeo for repeatable captures, waits, custom browser settings, PDFs, bulk URLs, and MCP-based agent workflows.
