How to Capture Full-Page Scrolling Screenshots in Windows 11 Edge
Use Edge’s built-in Screenshot tool to capture an entire webpage in Windows 11, plus fixes for missing commands and dynamic pages.
Short answer: Open the page in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page, review the result, then copy or save it. Edge captures content below the visible window without requiring manual scrolling.
Microsoft describes Web Capture as a built-in Edge feature for saving an entire webpage as one image. See the official Edge Web Capture documentation for the feature overview.
1. Capture an entire webpage in Edge
- Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge.
- Wait for the page to finish loading. If the page loads more content as you scroll, allow its initial scripts and images to settle first.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. This opens Edge’s Screenshot/Web capture tool.
- Select Capture full page.
- Review the captured image. Use the markup or drawing tools if you need annotations.
- Select Copy to place the image on the clipboard, or choose Save to write it to a file.
The full-page option includes content below the visible viewport. It is different from a normal screen capture, which records only what is currently visible.
2. Use Edge’s menus instead of the shortcut
If the keyboard shortcut does not work, open the Settings and more menu (the three dots in the upper-right corner) and choose Screenshot or Web capture. You can also right-click the page and choose the screenshot command when it is available.
Microsoft documents the same full-page workflow through these menus and the Ctrl+Shift+S shortcut. The command may be labeled Screenshot or Web capture depending on the Edge version.
3. Capture only part of a page
Choose Capture area when you need a specific section instead of the complete document.
- Open Web Capture with Ctrl+Shift+S or the Edge menu.
- Select Capture area.
- Drag around the section you want.
- Copy the selection or open it in markup mode before saving.
Area capture is useful for a chart, a product card, a code sample, or a single article section. It does not include content outside the rectangle you select.
4. Understand what each Windows 11 capture tool does
| Tool | Best for | Full webpage below the viewport? | How to open it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edge Screenshot/Web capture | An entire webpage or a selected webpage area | Yes, with Capture full page | Ctrl+Shift+S, Edge menu, or page context menu |
| Snipping Tool | A visible screen region, window, full desktop, or video snip | No documented scrolling webpage stitch mode | Windows logo key+Shift+S or Print Screen |
Use Edge for a long webpage. Use Snipping Tool for ordinary screen, window, freeform, full-screen, or video captures. Microsoft’s Snipping Tool guide lists its available modes.
5. When full-page capture produces an incomplete image
Edge’s capture operation works on the rendered webpage, so pages with unusual loading behavior can need preparation.
- Wait for lazy content: Scroll through the page once if images or sections appear only after they enter the viewport, then run Capture full page again.
- Dismiss overlays: Close cookie notices, newsletter dialogs, chat bubbles, and sign-in prompts before capturing. These can cover content in the result.
- Keep the page stable: Pause animations, carousels, or live dashboards when possible. A moving page can produce inconsistent sections.
- Check authentication: Confirm that you are signed in and that protected sections are visible in the browser tab before starting the capture.
- Try a clean reload: Reload the page, wait for the main content, and run the capture again if the first result is blank or truncated.
6. Troubleshooting Edge Screenshot
The Screenshot command is missing
First try Ctrl+Shift+S, then check both the three-dot menu and the page context menu. A managed Windows or Edge deployment can control Web Capture through the WebCaptureEnabled policy. Microsoft documents that the command appears when this policy is enabled or not configured. If your organization manages Edge, ask an administrator to review that policy. Version differences can also change the command label or location.
Ctrl+Shift+S opens another command or does nothing
- Click the webpage first so Edge has focus.
- Check whether another application or browser extension remaps the shortcut.
- Use the Edge menu as a fallback.
- Restart Edge after an update and try again.
The result contains only the visible viewport
Choose Capture full page, not Capture area. If full-page capture is unavailable, the command may be disabled by policy or the Edge installation may be outdated.
Images or sections are missing
The page may load those resources lazily or after JavaScript runs. Wait longer, scroll through the document once, close overlays, and repeat the capture. For pages that require a particular state, set that state before opening Web Capture.
The capture is blank, stale, or visually broken
Reload the page, verify the URL and network connection, and retry. Temporarily disable an extension that changes page content. A page protected by a bot check may not render its real content in a capture.
The saved image is too large to share
Use an image editor after saving to resize or convert the file. For a shorter image, use Capture area and select only the section that matters.
7. Quality, performance, and reliability considerations
- Page length: A very long document creates a large image. Saving can take longer and the resulting file can be harder for email or issue trackers to accept.
- Dynamic pages: Live data, rotating banners, sticky headers, and animations can change while Edge assembles the image.
- Nested scroll panes: Edge’s full-page command targets the webpage document. A chat panel or table with its own scrollbar may not expand as part of the main page.
- Responsive layout: The output uses the current Edge window and page layout. Resize the window or set browser zoom before capturing if the layout matters.
- Privacy: Review the image for account names, personal data, tokens, internal URLs, and other content before sharing it.
- Repeatability: For a consistent result, use the same window size, zoom level, login state, page state, and timing each time.
8. Or skip the browser setup
If you need repeatable screenshots from code, use ScreenshotNeo, a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts one GET request and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. The API can capture a full page, load lazy images, wait for a selector, delay, or network idle, use a device or custom viewport, apply custom CSS or JavaScript, hide selectors, set cookies and headers, and more.
Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are never billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed. Its MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients take screenshots with the take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools.
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for all options. Replace the example URL with the page you need.
cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot failed: ${res.status}`);
const bytes = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
require('fs').writeFileSync('shot.webp', bytes);
ScreenshotNeo includes 1,000 screenshots per month free with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; every feature is available on every plan. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.
9. FAQ
Can Edge capture a webpage without an extension?
Yes. Edge includes Web Capture, including Capture full page, as a built-in feature.
Does Snipping Tool capture an entire scrolling webpage?
Microsoft documents Snipping Tool for freeform, rectangle, window, full-screen, and video snips. For a full scrolling webpage, use Edge’s Capture full page command.
Can I annotate before saving?
Yes. Edge’s capture result includes markup and drawing tools before you copy or save it.
Why does a page look different in the screenshot?
Responsive breakpoints, zoom, lazy loading, animations, consent dialogs, and authenticated content can all change the rendered result. Capture after the page reaches the exact state you want to document.
Can I automate the same capture for many URLs?
Edge is suited to one-off captures. For automated workflows, an API such as ScreenshotNeo supports scripted requests, bulk capture, caching with a chosen TTL, and asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks.
