Windows Screenshot Shortcuts for Web Pages

Use Windows and Edge shortcuts to capture a visible region, active window, full screen, or an entire scrolling webpage.

For a visible part of a webpage, press Windows+Shift+S. To capture an entire scrolling webpage in Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S and choose Capture full page. The shortcuts produce different results: a screen snip captures pixels currently on your display, while Edge’s full-page tool captures content below the fold.

1. Choose the shortcut that matches your goal

Goal Shortcut or action Result
Select part of the visible page Windows+Shift+S Snipping overlay; the selection is copied to the clipboard and can be opened in Snipping Tool
Save everything visible on the monitor Windows+PrtScn Full-screen image saved in Pictures\Screenshots
Copy the entire screen PrtScn Full screen copied to the clipboard
Copy only the active window Alt+PrtScn Active window copied to the clipboard
Capture the whole webpage Edge: Ctrl+Shift+S, then Capture full page Image including content below the current viewport
Produce a printable document Edge: Ctrl+P Print settings and preview, rather than an image screenshot

Microsoft documents these Windows shortcuts in its Snipping Tool guide and Windows keyboard-shortcut reference.

2. Capture a visible part of a webpage with Windows+Shift+S

  1. Open the webpage and arrange the content you want to show.
  2. Press Windows+Shift+S.
  3. Choose a snipping mode if the toolbar appears: rectangular, freeform, window, or full screen.
  4. Drag over the webpage area. The capture is copied to the clipboard.
  5. Select the notification to open the image in Snipping Tool. From there you can annotate, copy, or save it.

This method records what is visible on the monitor. It does not automatically scroll through the page, so content below the fold is excluded.

3. Capture an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge

  1. Open the page in Microsoft Edge.
  2. Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also open Edge’s Screenshot command from the browser menu or context menu when available.
  3. Choose Capture full page to include content that extends below the screen. Choose the area option when you need only a portion.
  4. Use the resulting overlay to mark up, copy, or save the capture.

Microsoft describes this as capturing an entire webpage in one screenshot, including content beyond the screen. Availability and functionality can vary by device type, market, and Edge version. The feature was previously called Web Capture; Microsoft’s WebCaptureEnabled policy documentation explains that an administrator can control it. See Microsoft’s Screenshot Tool page for the current feature description and its Edge shortcut reference for keyboard behavior.

4. Use Print Screen for full-screen or window captures

Windows+PrtScn: save the whole display

Press Windows+PrtScn to save an image of every monitor display. Windows stores it in the Screenshots subfolder of Pictures. This includes browser chrome, taskbars, and other windows that are visible.

PrtScn: copy the whole display

Press PrtScn to copy the full screen to the clipboard, then paste it into an image editor, document, chat, or email.

Alt+PrtScn: copy the active window

Press Alt+PrtScn to copy only the currently active window. Switch to the browser first if you do not want another application included. Keyboard labels and behavior can differ on some hardware; Microsoft’s screen-copy reference covers the standard combinations.

5. Decide between a screenshot and printing

Use Ctrl+P in Edge when the goal is a printable or document-style representation of the page. The print dialog provides layout, destination, and system-print options. It is a print workflow, not an image screenshot; use Edge’s Screenshot feature when you need a single image of the rendered page. Microsoft’s Print in Microsoft Edge guide documents the print dialog.

6. Troubleshooting common shortcut problems

Problem Likely cause Fix
Windows+Shift+S does nothing Snipping Tool is unavailable, disabled, or the keyboard uses a function-layer key Open Snipping Tool from Start, check Windows updates and permissions, or try the on-screen command. On compact keyboards, use the documented Fn layer for Print Screen keys.
The capture contains only the visible viewport A screen snip was used In Edge, use Ctrl+Shift+S and select Capture full page.
Capture full page is missing Edge version, device, market, or policy does not expose the feature Update Edge, check whether an administrator controls Web Capture, and look for Screenshot in the browser menu. Microsoft states that availability and functionality vary.
The wrong window was captured The browser was not active when Alt+PrtScn was pressed Click the browser window first, then press Alt+PrtScn.
You cannot find a Windows+PrtScn file The shortcut was not recognized or the save location is different Check Pictures\Screenshots. Use PrtScn and paste into Paint to confirm the key works, then save manually.
A page is cut off or missing dynamic content The page has lazy-loaded sections, animations, or content that appears after a delay Wait for the page to finish loading, scroll through it once, or use a capture tool that can wait for selectors or network idle.
Consent banners, chat bubbles, or popups cover the page Those elements are part of the rendered page Dismiss them before a local capture, or use a service that removes common consent and overlay platforms before capture.

7. Quality, reliability, and file-size tips

  • Set the viewport first. Maximize or resize Edge before a visible-area snip so the captured layout matches the intended context.
  • Wait for dynamic content. Charts, images, and fonts may appear after the initial navigation. Capture after they settle.
  • Use full-page capture selectively. Very long pages create tall, memory-heavy images. For sharing, crop to the relevant section or print to a document.
  • Verify the output. Open the saved image and inspect the top, middle, and bottom of long captures for missing lazy-loaded content.
  • Protect sensitive data. Screen shortcuts include anything visible, including account details, notifications, and browser extensions.

8. Or skip the browser setup

If you need repeatable captures from code, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts one GET request and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed. Responses identify the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for all options. The basic request works in cURL:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Python:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Node.js:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

You can also control full-page capture, CSS selectors, dark mode, device presets, viewport and retina scale, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, waits, blocked requests, headers, cookies, user agents, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, caching, signed links, asynchronous webhooks, bulk capture, PDFs, and usage reporting. Free usage includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.
